Biography

Shawn holds a bachelor’s degree in Management (summa cum laude) from Singapore Management University (SMU).

Shawn’s research examines the psychological and behavioral dynamics of misalignment in the workplace. First, he is interested to explore the foundations and effects of psychological disparities between organizational actors. For instance, he studies how contradictions between individuals’ lay beliefs and reality, or divergent perspectives across groups (e.g., employees vs. managers, applicants vs. recruiters, etc.), emerge and shape seemingly mundane—but highly consequential—organizational practices. Second, he explores behavioral incongruence with social norms, both constructive and destructive. He is particularly interested in what unexpectedly promotes or inhibits atypical actions, and how individuals and organizations can anticipate, manage, or harness such behaviors. Across both streams, he aims to develop evidence-based insights and interventions to foster more collaborative and effective workplaces. To do so, he employs multiple methodologies including field surveys, laboratory experiments, archival data, and qualitative approaches—to ensure strong question–method fit and to strengthen the robustness and applicability of his findings.

Prior to joining the INSEAD team, Shawn was a career military officer in the Singapore Navy where he held the rank of Captain.
