Our faculty works on a diverse set of research areas including Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Trade, Organizations, Political Economy and the role of governments on business. We teach in all our degree programmes three of the required core courses as well as a set of electives.

Post-Doctoral Researcher Position – Labor Market Dynamics and AI in the Knowledge Economy

Professors Lily Fang and Pushan Dutt invite applications for a full-time Post-Doctoral Researcher to join INSEAD, based either at the France campus in Fontainebleau or at the Singapore campus, starting as soon as possible.

The post-doctoral researcher will contribute to a cutting-edge research agenda at the intersection of labor economics, development economics, and the economics of artificial intelligence. The research focuses on labor market dynamics in the knowledge economy, with particular attention to human capital flows, occupational change, and the impact of AI on skills, productivity, and employment outcomes.

The position is embedded in INSEAD’s globally connected research ecosystem and offers extensive opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and professional development across campuses and partner institutions.

The position may be based in either Fontainebleau (France) or Singapore, depending on the candidate’s preference and research fit.

This is a full-time position with an initial one-year contract, renewable subject to academic performance and contribution to ongoing research activities, with a formal performance review after the first year.

Role and Responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Researcher will:

  • Provide advanced research support through programming, data analysis, and data visualization
  • Work with large-scale datasets, including Revelio/Lightcast, and apply methods such as web scraping and textual analysis
  • Apply modern econometric techniques to support ongoing and new research projects
  • Devote part of their time to developing, advancing, and publishing their own research agenda
  • Actively engage with the broader economics research community at INSEAD across campuses and at partner institutions, including NUS, Collège de France, and Sciences Po

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A completed PhD in Economics, Finance, or a closely related social science discipline by the start date

  • Demonstrated experience working with large datasets and strong quantitative skills

  • Strong programming proficiency in Stata and Python

  • An excellent academic record and evidence of research potential

  • Strong organizational skills and excellent written and oral communication abilities

  • A genuine enthusiasm for academic research and interest in pursuing a research-oriented academic career

Pre-Doctoral Researcher: James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Centre for the Study of Wealth Inequality

The INSEAD’s Stone Centre for the Study of Wealth Inequality, in combination with the Economics and Political Science area, invites applications for a full time Pre-Doctoral Researcher to work as a Research Associate (Area Researcher) on INSEAD’s Fontainebleau (France) campus. The role involves working with Professors Mark Stabile and Maria Guadalupe on various projects related to both inequality and health economics. The ideal candidate will have strong data management and data analyses skills, particularly with STATA.

This position is ideal for a recent university or Master’s graduate looking to develop research skills in economics before applying to a PhD programme. It provides training in all aspects of applied economics research, access to selected PhD-level courses, and the opportunity to build close working relationships with faculty who can serve as references and mentors.

What You Will Do

The Research Associate will contribute to all stages of the research process, including:
•    Constructing and managing datasets from administrative and survey sources
•    Conducting empirical analyses (descriptive statistics, regression analysis, causal inference methods)
•    Reviewing and synthesizing academic literature
•    Replicating and extending published results
•    Producing tables, figures, and draft text for working papers
•    Using AI-assisted tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate research workflows, while critically verifying all outputs

Requirements 

All candidates should fit the following profile:
•    Bachelor's or Master’s degree in economics or a related quantitative field
•    Fluency in written and spoken English
•    Proficiency in Stata; working knowledge of at least one additional language (Python, R, or Julia)
•    Strong empirical and analytical skills, including familiarity with causal inference methods
•    Ability to critically evaluate and verify computational outputs, including those generated by AI tools
•    Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small research team
•    Strong organizational and communication skills (written and oral)
•    Intellectual honesty and commitment to research integrity
•    Experience using large language models (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) as research aids, with awareness of their limitations
•    Desirable:
•    Familiarity with version control (Git/GitHub)
•    Reading knowledge of French (useful but not required)

About us 

The James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Centre for the Study of Wealth Inequality was founded in 2017 to serve as a venue for the research and teaching of income and wealth inequality issues in a business school environment. By convening an interdisciplinary team of scholars from across INSEAD, the Centre aims to generate new insights about inequality problems and business working together with government to solve them.
