A Bit of History

A Bridge Between Asia and the Rest of the World

In 1999, INSEAD took a bold step to differentiate itself from other business schools: it opened a campus in Asia and became the first business school to have two full-fledged campuses with permanent faculty - one in Europe, the other in Asia.

The vision in setting up the Asia Campus was for INSEAD to "create a bridge between Asia and the rest of the world.” In 2000, the founder of modern Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, participated in the inauguration of the campus.

Within a few years, the school acknowledged the pressing need to expand the young campus. In 2005, the second phase of campus development began and INSEAD expanded its presence in Asia. In 2010-11, with great pride, the school celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Asia Campus.

In 2015, INSEAD opened the doors to the S$55 million Leadership Development Centre, a six-story, 10,000 square metre building that addresses the accelerating demand for management and leadership education in Asia. The Centre allows INSEAD to build its world-class faculty to 70 in Singapore and significantly increases the number of students, executives, top scholars and practitioners on the Asia Campus.

Other Accomodation

Hotels

Singapore offers a wide variety of hotels from budget hotels to the most expensive ones.

Serviced Apartments

These provide full facilities, including furnishing and maid services. These units are like multiroom hotels, with kitchens and appliances. Some of the temporary housing options offer corporate, family, and long-term discounts. Some even offer their own bus services. There are approximately 30 serviced apartment complexes in Singapore with 3000 units to choose from.

Longer Term

After having decided your preferred location and budget needs, contact a real estate agent who will guide you to find an apartment or a house. In Singapore it is not unusual to use several real estate agents.

Research & Learning Hub

Tanoto Research & Learning Hub

The Tanoto Research & Learning Hub at Asia Campus supports INSEAD faculty, visiting professors, research staff, and degree participants in their research and curriculum activities. To a limited extent, it also supports alumni, Executive Education participants and affiliate researchers in their research activities.

Using state-of-the-art technology and security, it is open 24 hours a day and accessible only with a valid INSEAD badge. The R&L Hub offers spacious work areas, high speed network connection and computers, as well as cloud printing services.

The collections, both physical and digital, cover all aspects of business and management, as well as related areas such as economics, politics, behavioural sciences, information technology, sciences and law. These collections can be browsed through the online catalogue. The books may be borrowed using the 24-hour self-borrowing service.

A selection of online databases published by the main business information providers and a wide collection of top business journals are accessible on and off all campuses with a valid INSEAD login.

To support energy conservation efforts and provide the same timings over both campuses, the R&L Hubs will close every day at Midnight and re-open at 6am. Hours will be extended to 2am for the 3 days before exams.

Help services are available from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm from Mondays to Fridays except on public holidays.
