The field of Operations Management has been changing dramatically due to the emergence of a truly global economy, significant advances in information and process technology, and the continued growth of services. The Technology and Operations Management Area (TOM) focuses on value creation on a global scale through innovative product and process design, project management as well as on value capture through effective supply chain management.
Post-Doctoral Position
The INSEAD Healthcare Management Initiative invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow position. The initiative is led and supported by INSEAD Technology and Operations Management (TOM) area.
Analytics for assessing new health innovations: The postdoc would work in improving the assessment and performance of the health technology innovation pipeline. Topics may include highly sequential clinical trial design, value-based trials that use health-economic considerations for technology adoption decisions to shape clinical trial design, the valuation of portfolios of clinical trials with financial engineering techniques, or value-based pricing in Bayesian inference for innovative health technologies. The work would extend past related work in the group on Bayesian decision-theoretic methods for adaptive trials (e.g., sequential learning to improve the efficiency of learning/optimization), value-based trials (to improve learning and the optimal stopping of trials relative to cost-health benefit criteria), precision medicine (to quickly identify the right treatment for the right person), and price negotiations (rewarding ‘better’ treatments with better reimbursement). Applicants that can connect multiple approaches to machine learning are encouraged.
Post-docs will be expected to do innovative, rigorous research and to interact with companies or health care providers to make the research relevant. The project will primarily be led by Prof Stephen Chick and is based at INSEAD’s campus in Fontainebleau, France. The post-doc will have the opportunity to discuss with other faculty, PhD students, and research staff with similar interests, such as those in INSEAD’s Humanitarian Research Group, the Sustainable Business Initiative, and the Africa Initiative. There will also be an opportunity for interaction with the MRC Biostatistics Unit at the University of Cambridge that focuses on Efficient Study Design for innovative clinical trials.
Requirements
Candidates for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow position would ideally have a PhD in operations research, operations management, supply chain management, or a related field. A quantitative background in other disciplines (e.g., computer science, statistics, industrial engineering) is also appropriate. A passion to understand an important application setting, to develop models that allow for new methodological work, and to derive insights for practice is value. Some experience working with researchers and firms is a plus. All candidates should fit the following profile:
Fluency in written and oral English
Strong mathematical and algorithmic background
Ability to work independently and in small teams
Excellent work ethic
Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills
Strong motivation and high academic values
