Programme Overview

The Tsinghua – INSEAD Executive MBA (TIEMBA) programme is a unique partnership between INSEAD, one of the world's leading business schools, and Tsinghua, one of China’s most prestigious universities.  The executive master degree programme takes place across INSEAD’s three campuses in Singapore, Abu Dhabi (UAE), and Fontainebleau (France), and Tsinghua’s university campus in Beijing (China).

The 22-month programme, consisting of 12 core courses, 4 elective courses, Key Management Challenges courses, and a thesis, is designed for senior executives who want to learn the practical knowledge and soft skills required to excel in both East and West. You will exchange perspectives within an elite, dynamic, culturally diverse class of experienced managers and be part of two powerful alumni networks. The TIEMBA is where life-changing leadership development meets technical mastery of key business disciplines. And both make an immediate impact in your organisation. It is the best of East and West, learning and working, technical knowledge and soft skills — in a single programme.

Masterclass Topic: Ambidextrous Leadership - Managing Contradictions in Business Life

Masterclass Synopsis:

In the complex world of global business, senior executives often face the challenge of balancing the immediate demands of today with the long-term goals of tomorrow. How can you effectively manage short-term priorities while ensuring the future is just as successful?

Charles Galunic is a Professor of Organisational Behaviour and the Aviva Chaired Professor of Leadership and Responsibility at INSEAD. He works within the fields of organisation behaviour and strategy. His research mostly concerns the micro-foundations of strategic advantage (e.g., networks and culture) within organisations, and the role of leaders in shaping the environment within organisations. He also explores leadership transitions, that is how managers develop their leadership skills and identity.

He has published in top academic and practitioner-oriented journals, including the Journal of Managerial and Decision Economics, Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Organisation Science, Strategic Management Journal, Harvard Business Review, and Research in Organisational Behaviour. He has served on the editorial board of Strategic Organisation and the Strategic Management Journal, as well as a former associate editor of the Academy of Management Annals and departmental editor for the Journal of International Business Studies.

He has been a pioneer of several courses at INSEAD, including the core MBA course in Managing Organisations and the core EMBA course in Leading People and Organisations. He also served as the second Dean of the EMBA program, launching the programme in the Chinese market (TIEMBA), which has become one of the highest FT-ranked Global EMBA’s in the world. He has won best case awards and was amongst the top 50 best-selling case authors in the 50 year history of the European Case Clearing House. He also teaches in a variety of INSEAD executive programmes, both in Fontainebleau, Middle East, and Asia, and is a programme director for one of INSEAD's flagship programmes, the Transition to General Management. He has received multiple teaching awards at INSEAD, in the EMBA and EDP teaching and direction, including the INSEAD Excellence Award in Executive Education at INSEAD.

Professor Galunic holds a Ph.D. in Organisational Behaviour/Industrial Engineering Stanford University, California; a BA in Philosophy, Politics & Economics from Oxford University (Canadian Rhodes Scholar); and a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Queen's University, Canada. He was also a visiting Fellow of Cambridge University (Judge Business School).
