Although you will already have achieved success as a functional expert, stepping up to general management can be a difficult and potentially risky transition. General managers need a comprehensive toolkit in order to make this transition from specialist to generalist a successful one.
The Transition to General Management programme is our flagship general-management-level programme. Delivered face-to-face and online, it is exclusively designed to equip you with all the skills and knowledge needed for your transition to general management.
The programme will give you the confidence to manage the complexity you will be facing as you develop from a specialist into a generalist. In short, INSEAD’s unique tools and insights will prepare you to succeed in this most difficult of transitions, the point in a manager’s career when they need to quickly expand their knowledge of business.

To further embed your learning, the Transition to General Management programme now includes optional online learning. Should they wish, participants are able to choose one of 4 carefully selected INSEAD Open Online Programmes, designed to strengthen their knowledge in a variety of strategic areas essential for general management. The programmes to choose from are:
- Strategy in the Age of Digital Disruption
- Building Digital Partnerships and Ecosystems
- Innovation in the Age of Disruption
- INSEAD Gender Diversity Programme
Whilst the online programme lasts a total of 5 weeks, the time commitment is not as great as the face-to-face programme. Indeed, it requires three to five hours of work a week.
It will take place after the face-to-face component and should be attended within 18 months after completion of the face-to-face modules
This programme qualifies for the INSEAD Certificate in Global Management.
Post-Programme Weekly Online Learning Journey
Each week of content follows a very clear path to facilitate learning for busy executives. The platform allows participants to learn at their own pace during each week, by viewing the content, completing assignments and engaging in discussions, taking on average 3-5 hours per week to complete.

The Transition to General Management programme is a four-week general-management-level programme designed to equip participants with all the skills and knowledge needed for their transition to general management.
