Advanced Management Programme

The INSEAD Advanced Management Programme is a four-week, immersive general management programme for C-suite leaders and experienced senior executives. It is designed to help leaders strengthen their strategic judgement, build high-performing organisations and deepen their self-awareness and impact as leaders.

Rather than approaching management through individual functional disciplines, the Advanced Management Programme explores the complex, interconnected challenges facing senior leaders today. Through faculty teaching, peer learning, case studies, simulations, 360° feedback, reflection and coaching, participants develop the broader perspective and leadership capabilities required to lead effectively at the top of your organisation.

The INSEAD Advanced Management Programme is designed for experienced senior executives, including CEOs, COOs, CFOs and leaders of major business units, product divisions or geographical regions in the private and public sectors.

Participants typically have at least 12 years of management experience, including five or more years in a senior management position with significant cross-functional and P&L responsibility.

Advanced Management Programme is particularly relevant for leaders who already carry substantial organisational responsibility and want to step back from the demands of their role to sharpen their strategic thinking, strengthen their leadership impact and gain new perspectives on the challenges facing their organisation.

The Advanced Management Programme develops three interconnected dimensions of senior leadership: becoming a stronger Strategic Leader, High-Performance Leader and Self-Aware Leader.

You will explore how major economic, geopolitical and technological shifts affect strategy and business models; how to lead change, align stakeholders and build high-performing organisations and teams; and how your own values, behaviours and leadership style influence your effectiveness.

The programme also develops capabilities including strategic thinking and execution, financial acumen, negotiation, AI and Big Data, resilience, communication, developing people, executive presence and change management. The aim is not simply to acquire more knowledge, but to strengthen your judgement and ability to apply it to complex enterprise-level challenges.

You will return to your organisation with new perspectives, practical frameworks and a clearer approach to the strategic and leadership challenges you face.

Throughout AMP, you are encouraged to connect your learning to the realities of your own organisation. You will examine how external forces affect your strategy, explore ways to improve organisational and team performance, strengthen your ability to engage stakeholders and reflect on how your own leadership behaviours influence results.

The programme is designed to turn insight into action. By the end of the four weeks, you should be better equipped to make complex decisions, challenge assumptions, lead change and translate your learning into a focused strategic plan for your organisation and your own continued development as a leader.

The Advanced Management Programme helps senior leaders understand disruptive forces in the context of the broader strategic decisions they need to make.

The programme explores major trends shaping the business environment, including geopolitical shifts, technological disruption, macroeconomic change and innovation. AI and Big Data are also among the capabilities covered by the programme.

Rather than viewing these forces as isolated topics, the Advanced Management Programme challenges you to consider their implications for strategy, business models, organisational performance, people and leadership. No specific academic preparation or refresher study is required before attending the Advanced Management Programme. The programme is designed for experienced senior executives, and the programme builds on the knowledge, judgement and leadership experience you have developed throughout your career.

You do not need to be an expert in every business function. The programme brings together executives with different functional, industry and geographic backgrounds, allowing participants to learn from one another as well as from INSEAD faculty. Rather than brushing up on particular subjects, it is more valuable to arrive ready to challenge your assumptions, reflect on your leadership and consider the strategic and organisational challenges you are currently facing.

Both the Advanced Management Programme and Transition to General Management are immersive INSEAD general management programmes, but they are designed for executives at different stages of their careers.

Transition to General Management is primarily for experienced functional leaders who are preparing to move into - or have recently taken on - their first broad general management role. It builds the foundations needed to lead beyond a functional specialism, including finance, strategy, marketing, operations and leadership.

The Advanced Management Programme is designed for C-suite executives and seasoned general managers with greater organisation-level responsibility. Rather than preparing participants for the transition into general management, it helps experienced senior leaders refine their strategic judgement, strengthen organisational performance and deepen their impact and self-awareness as leaders.
