Evrim Taskiran MBA'18D: A Circular Vision with Purpose

A year ago, we interviewed Evrim Taskiran, Founder and CEO of Cyclecure, at ChangeNOW 2024, shortly after he had taken the stage to speak about the future of circular mobility. This year, when we bumped into him again at the 2025 summit, we had just one question: what happened in a year?

The answer was a story of resilience, reinvention—and a deep commitment to purpose.

Evrim’s journey began as an engineer and consultant in the automotive industry. But it was at INSEAD that the seed of entrepreneurship - and impact - truly took root. “There was so much creative energy and inspiration at INSEAD,” he reflects. “It made me want to build something that matters.”

That “something” became Cyclecure, a start-up that has evolved from a simple rental platform into a full-fledged circular mobility company. Today, Cyclecure partners with major retailers, fleet operators, municipalities, and insurers to give e-scooters and e-bikes a second life - buying used or broken devices, repairing and refurbishing them, and returning them to the market.

But 2024 put that mission to the test. “Last year was a tough one for the entire industry,” Evrim admits. “Demand dropped, funding dried up, and we had to pivot quickly.” Rather than retreat, he doubled down on the company’s core values - leaning into refurbishment and sustainability as a path forward.

By January 2025, Cyclecure had not only stabilised, but reached its first profitable month. Four consecutive months of growth followed, giving Evrim the confidence to scale—and the clarity to stay true to his purpose. “We're not just fixing scooters,” he says. “We’re building a system that values resources, reduces waste, and makes mobility more responsible.”

One of Cyclecure’s most innovative steps is in battery refurbishment - an area often ignored because of complexity and cost. Rather than discard an entire battery due to a single faulty cell, Cyclecure now opens and repairs them at the component level. “Sometimes a €5 fix saves a €500 battery,” Evrim says. “It’s smarter, more sustainable, and more accessible.”

Cyclecure’s commitment was recognised this year when it was selected among the Top 50 mobility startups in Europe by the European Startup Prize for Mobility, co-founded by VIA ID and BCG. “It’s a big validation,” Evrim says. “It shows that purpose and business can go hand in hand.”

Evrim’s story is one of a leader who has remained agile, values-driven, and forward-looking, even through uncertainty. “Being an entrepreneur tests you,” he reflects. “But when your work is grounded in purpose, you find the strength to keep going.”

As INSEAD continues to shape responsible leaders who transform business and society, Evrim’s journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible - when vision meets values.
