During his undergraduate studies, in addition to studying public economics, Stephen served as president for his university's filmmaking and screenwriting student groups. After graduating, he worked in the fields of US-China political risk consulting and economic consulting before moving to US-China political economy research with the Institute for China-America Studies and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. During his time at the Harvard Kennedy School, Stephen also collaborated with scholars at INSEAD, MIT Sloan, and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development to research topics relating to self-managing organizations, how human-technology organizational design affects collective intelligence and creativity, and the potential for AI technology to improve labor market outcomes for persons with disabilities.
