INSEAD and the Johnson & Johnson Corporate Citizenship Trust further equips leaders for the challenging demands of healthcare

INSEAD, the leading international business school in partnership with the Johnson & Johnson Corporate Citizenship Trust, recently conducted the ”Middle East Healthcare Leadership Programme”. The programme, which is in its eighth consecutive year, is designed to develop and support a new group of Middle Eastern leaders who are deeply committed to helping their healthcare organisations fulfill their missions.

Managing the soaring cost of health and providing a comprehensive healthcare solution for a dynamic and rapidly expanding population will be one of the main challenges for the Middle East in the years to come. In this environment, innovation and leadership will be essential to realizing the effective and sustainable delivery of healthcare services.

”There is a rapid and continuing evolution in our knowledge and understanding of healthcare science, technology and practice. As Middle East policymakers grapple with the evolving challenges in the region’s healthcare sector, it is our duty as one of the world’s leading business schools to help leaders further develop the performance of their organization and teams,” commented programme director, Steve Chick, INSEAD’s Professor of Technology and Operations Management and Novartis Chaired Professor of Health Care Management.

Khaled Mansour, Area Managing Director, Janssen-Cilag, Middle East — West Asia & Africa, and Chair (Middle East branch), Johnson & Johnson Corporate Citizen Trust added: ”Effective healthcare is about more than acquiring sound technical medical expertise and resources — it also requires leadership, sound decision—making skills, and expertise to link resources together and provide quality patient care. Our partnership with INSEAD under the Middle East Healthcare Leadership programme reinforces our commitment to developing skilled and inspiring professionals who will manage and lead the changes required in the health sector”.

The 33 senior medical professionals who participated in the programme were offered an educational experience that will equip them with concepts, tools, techniques and strategies to play significant leadership roles in the rapidly changing and extremely challenging world of healthcare across the region.

”Most of us recognize great leaders when we come across them.  However, often we don't know what makes them great. Participation in INSEAD’s Middle-East Leadership programme broke down the different aspects of great leadership into discreet units that are easier to understand and in turn incorporate into my leadership role in the health care industry. I believe that all health care leaders should be required to take this course.  I will use the material I learned in this course for the rest of my life”, said Dr. Al Aly, MD, FACS, Professor of Plastic Surgery, Consultant Plastic Surgery, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

”INSEAD’s leadership course has been a phenomenal experience. The lecturers provided expressed experience, collective wisdom, practical strategies and human social behavioral modules that will enhance my leadership style and project management strategy to achieve better results for my patients and health care in my institute. It has been a compact week’s course in a practical, extensive but also fun and stimulating environment”, added Dr. Ali Al Dameh MD FRACS FACS, Consultant Thoracic & Upper GI Surgeon, Tawam John Hopkins.

This year the Middle East Healthcare Leadership Programme brought together participants from sixteen countries and a variety of professional experiences and organisational affiliations to engage in a single pursuit. Together, these professionals from around the world gathered in a demanding and rigorous setting to learn about new and innovative approaches that are powerfully impacting the quality of healthcare in the region.

”The training programme was very useful; it highlighted critical points in my job as director of the national diabetes and endocrine center. I learnt a powerful concept which is very helpful in health system as an administrative or a clinician in my field”, said Dr. Noor Al Busaidi, MD, Director, National Diabetes and Endocrine center, President of Oman Diabetes Association.
