INSEAD, the leading international business school, has been awarded top honours in a number of categories in this year’s European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) case writing competition, winning three out of 14 of the coveted awards—the most by any institution.
INSEAD Professor of Marketing Amitava Chattopadhyay, Betania Tanure and Nina Paavola won in the category of Latin American Business for their case study Natura: Expanding Beyond Latin America.
In the Corporate Social Responsibility category, Craig Smith, the INSEAD Chaired Professor of Ethics and Social Responsibility, and Robert J. Crawford won for their case study Walmart: Love, Earth.
In the category of Public Sector Innovations INSEAD Professor of Finance, Pierre Hillion, and Jean Wee won for their case study AquaSure: Project Finance – Victorian Desalination Plant.

The European Foundation for Management Development is an international membership organisation based in Brussels, Belgium. EFMD is recognized around the world as a high quality accreditation body in management education and a catalyst in promoting excellence in management development. EFMD is a 750-member organisation in 81 countries from the fields of academia, business, public service and consultancy. EFMD has been the organizer of the case writing competition for 30 years.
Ilian Mihov, Deputy Dean for Faculty and Research at INSEAD commented that, “Receiving three EFMD case writing awards is an indication of the creativity and diversity among INSEAD faculty. We are extremely pleased to widen the breadth of this repository of information and knowledge.”
In the past three years, INSEAD has netted more than 15 awards in global research. The EFMD case writing competition award was first presented to INSEAD in 2003. Last year, INSEAD won in two categories.
