INSEAD, the leading international business school, and WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management, recognised exemplary factories and service companies at the annual Industrial Excellence Awards Conference in Nuremberg, Germany. Winning plants were announced from France, Germany and Eastern Europe as well as an overall European winner.
‘The Industrial Excellence Awards honours companies for applying the Management Quality method seamlessly across each of the five core processes,’ said Steve Chick, INSEAD Professor of Technology and Operations Management and Academic Director of the Industrial Excellence Awards for France/Eastern Europe. ‘Each of this year’s winners epitomises operational excellence and thus achieves market success.’
The national winners of the competition, Airbus St. Eloi Plant, Toulouse, France; Siemens AG, Werk Amberg, Germany; John Deere Iberica, Madrid, Spain; and ASML, Veldhoven, Netherlands, were celebrated at the conference, which took place 23-24 November 2011. Laureates include: Timac, Saint Malo, France; TeamBank AG, Nuremberg, Germany; Festool GmbH, Neidlingen, Germany; and DAF, Eindhoven, Netherlands.
This year, the overall winner of the Industrial Excellence Awards 2011 is John Deere Iberica, the components manufacturer. John Deere is competitive worldwide, partners with its customers, is really engaged with its employees and provides drive train solutions which will transform into a competitive advantage for the company. Their key capabilities and dedicated companies give support to innovation and competitiveness.
Since 1995, the Industrial Excellence Award competition examines how the strategy of business units is formulated, deployed and executed. Factories and service companies with significant operations in France, Germany or Eastern Europe are encouraged to take part in a survey and questionnaire. A jury of management professors from INSEAD and WHU review the submissions to determine the finalists.
Christoph Loch, INSEAD Professor of Technology and Operations Management, added: ‘Since the concept of Management Quality is founded on a detailed analysis of operational processes, the questionnaire we developed for the competition is regarded as a valuable tool for the prioritisation of improvement processes in planning and manufacturing as well as for the effective management of the entire supply chain and service.’
