On January 25 & 26, the conference organised by Les Rencontres Économiques & INSEAD will discuss the "Indo-Pacific: Shaping The World Order" with 40 economists, academics & politicians from China, France, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Portugal & Singapore
Economic and geopolitical relations have become increasingly polarised in recent years. In the face of Sino-American rivalries, relations between Europe and Southeast Asia now appear as a "third way". After its first two editions in Singapore (2016 and 2019), this year's Rencontres Économiques will focus on the challenges of an emerging and yet-to-be-defined economic zone, though pivotal for trade and the stability of global balances.
Under the direction of Jean-Hervé LORENZI, founder of the Cercle des économistes and the Rencontres Économiques, and in collaboration with INSEAD, the Rencontres Économiques de Singapour will welcome leading figures from the worlds of economics, politics, the private sector and civil society, to discuss the geo-economic realities and challenges of this region, as well as the essential relations between Europe and South-East Asia.
A number of members of the Cercle des économistes will be making the trip and moderating five round-table discussions, notably featuring : Francisco VELOSO, Dean of INSEAD, Sim ANN, Singapore's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Development, Rebecca Fatima STA MARIA, Executive Director of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Jean-Pierre MARCELLI, AFD Director for Southeast Asia, Yose RIZAL DAMURI, Executive Director of the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Tiza MAFIRA, Director of Climate Policy Initiative, LIEW Chin Tong, Deputy Minister for Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia, NG Nichol, Chairman ONE Singapore, S.E. Ambassador ONG Keng Yong, Vice-President of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies.
Speakers will address cooperation between Europe and Indo-Pacific countries, the rise of new technologies, the role of this region in the global restructuring and the energy transition. See the full programme here.
The two days of exchanges and debates aim at gaining insights into the challenges facing this region.
"The major international upheavals we are currently experiencing are redrawing the maps of geopolitical relations. In the midst of all this, the Indo-Pacific region seems set to emerge and become a key player in this new order. But does this make sense? During these 2 days of conferences, we will attempt to answer this question with prestigious speakers of 7 different nationalities", declares Jean-Hervé Lorenzi, president and founder of the Rencontres Economiques.
"We are delighted to host the Rencontres Économiques Singapore Economic Forum at the INSEAD Asia Campus. As a leading institution in global business education, INSEAD is committed to contributing to this crucial discussion that explores the emerging economic dynamics and geopolitical challenges of the Indo-Pacific region. We look forward to joining experts from diverse backgrounds to gain valuable insights into the evolving landscape and promote cooperation between Europe and Southeast Asia”, adds Professor Francisco Veloso, Dean of INSEAD.

ABOUT LES RENCONTRES ÉCONOMIQUES D'AIX-EN-PROVENCE
The Cercle des économistes created the Rencontres Économiques d'Aix-en-Provence in 2001. The event has become the leading forum for reflection and debate in France's economic world. For three days, hundreds of high-level speakers from all over the world take part in unprecedented sessions to discuss and imagine together the future direction of our economy. Europe's biggest economic debate, open to all and free of charge, welcomes 7,000 people in person every year, and hundreds of thousands remotely. For the past ten years, the Rencontres Économiques have also been opening up the debate around the world, in close proximity to the issues at stake on five continents: Casablanca (2014), Dakar (2021 and 2022), Singapore (2016 and 2019), Washington (2023) and Kigali (2023).
ABOUT THE CERCLE DES ÉCONOMISTES
Founded in 1992 by Jean-Hervé Lorenzi, the Cercle des économistes has the ambitious aim of shedding light on the economic debate. Thanks to the diversity of opinions of its members, all academics who hold or have held public or private office, and to the many activities developed over the years, the Cercle des économistes is today the initiator of an enlightened, inclusive and committed economic debate in an uncertain context. Through the organization of major public debates in France and abroad, its participation in major economic events and the organization of the Rencontres Économiques d'Aix-en-Provence, the Cercle des économistes pursues its mission of providing a broad forum for the expression and confrontation of economic viewpoints.
