INSEAD-Emeritus On Campus Immersion & Networking Event
Dear Participant,
We are thrilled to host the inaugural INSEAD-Emeritus On Campus Immersion and Networking Event for our Senior Executive Programmes Online, held on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December 2024 on INSEAD's Europe campus.
Join us for two days of insightful discussions with INSEAD thought leaders and peers on topics that will transcend your learnings from the past 12 months and provide further support to your organisation's objectives and your role.
After a year of online and live virtual learning, this will be an opportunity to meet and network across cohorts of the Chief Operations Officer, Chief Strategy Officer, and the Sustainability Leadership Programme for Executives programmes. An occasion to share and deepen your learnings through peer exchanges and lectures.
Below you will find a draft programme which will be updated nearer the date.
We look forward to welcoming you to campus!

Session Descriptions
Decision Making in Teams: ”Mission to Mars” VR Simulation
with Prof. Ithai STern
KEY LEARNINGS AND DESCRIPTION OF SESSION
“Houston, We’ve had a problem here.”
Apollo 13
Having a team does not necessarily equate to having effective teamwork. Simply assigning a small group to make a collective decision doesn’t guarantee a better outcome than if a single individual were in charge. While teams have the potential to generate collective wisdom, dysfunctional dynamics can lead to collective mistakes.
One of the biggest challenges teams face is how to gather and process information. Key tensions include: agreeing on what is commonly known and undisputed, dividing tasks to foster curiosity and discovery, and integrating new, potentially controversial information that is possible but uncertain. Teams that struggle to process information effectively will underperform, while those that navigate complexity well are more likely to produce innovative solutions—a critical factor for growing companies.
In this session, we will use an innovative learning tool developed at INSEAD: Virtual Reality (VR) technology. You’ll be immersed in a "Mission to Mars," an adventure to save Earth for future generations. Your team will be tasked with making an urgent decision to save a spacecraft, carrying vital scientific equipment (and scientists), en route to Mars. How effectively and swiftly your team processes complex information could determine Earth’s fate.

Leading Through Uncertainty
with Prof. Nathan furr
KEY LEARNINGS AND DESCRIPTION OF SESSION
Leaders and their organizations face increasing uncertainty and disruption. Moreover effective action through innovation, adaptation, and change depends upon a leader’s ability to guide others through uncertainty. But few us are given tools for navigating the unknown and so we fall into maladaptive traps. In this session we explore the findings from dozens of interviews and empirical research on the tools to face uncertainty with courage and resilience so we can discover the possibilities hidden within it.
We will explore four categories of tools for building your uncertainty ability:
—Reframe uncertainty from something frightening to the source of possibility
—Prime by understanding your natural uncertainty strengths and weaknesses
—Do by applying the tools used by innovators to learn and adapt in the fog of the unknown
—Sustain yourself when things go differently than expected.
We will apply these tools in discussion and exercises to your leadership and career.
