Biography
Professor Cristina Bicchieri is the S. J. Patterson Harvie Professor of Social Thought and Comparative Ethics at the University of Pennsylvania, where she holds appointments in the Departments of Philosophy and Psychology, and is also affiliated with the Wharton School and the Annenberg School for Communication. She is the Director of the Penn Center for Social Norms and Behavioral Dynamics, a global research hub dedicated to understanding and promoting positive behavioral change through the study of social norms.
An internationally recognized expert in social norms, philosophy of social science, game theory, and behavioral ethics, Professor Bicchieri has advised organizations such as UNICEF, the World Bank, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on applying social norms theory to foster social and behavioral change worldwide.
Originally from Italy, Professor Bicchieri earned her Ph.D. in Philosophy of Science from Cambridge University, following degrees in Philosophy and Logic from the University of Milano. She is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the author of several influential books, including The Grammar of Society: The Nature and Dynamics of Social Norms, Norms in the Wild: How to Diagnose, Measure, and Change Social Norms, and Rationality and Coordination.
Professor Bicchieri is also a member of the German Academy of Science and honorary fellow of Wolfson College at Cambridge University.
