... for Breakthrough Work in the Publishing and Multimedia Industry
INSEAD, the leading international business school, announced that Phil Parker, a professor of management science and international strategy at the school, received a U.S Patent last week for his innovative work that stands to revolutionise the publishing and multimedia industry.
After ten years of research, the patent under the title of ”Automatic Method of Authoring and Marketing” allows standalone computers to author original books, video games, software or video programs, without human intervention from authors, editors, copy editors or publishers. To date, the software has been applied to create 200,000 titles, currently available on Amazon.com and other booksellers.
The patent relies on artificial intelligence which can develop content for unexplored subject matters at a very small cost. The innovation was used for the first time in 2000 to create and sell hundreds of titles, and was more recently used to create dictionaries, language learning games and high-end country reports currently being purchased by investment banks, U.S. Government and International agencies, libraries and consulting firms. All of the titles are printed on demand, which results in no need for inventory and extremely low production costs.
“Many of the titles produced would not have been economically viable using traditional technologies,” said Dr. Parker. ”Using a computer as a ‘pen’ will bring revolutionary advancements in the publishing, gaming, motion picture and multimedia industries. Massively automated content creation may be the key to long tail strategies in these sectors”.
For Professor Parker, the objective is to make content creation easier for authors, publishers and media producers. In order to avoid the tedious collection and organisation of scattered data, the software carries out this job for them. “Right now" he declares, "I would like to reinvest all the benefits of this project into research and development”. Phil Parker is currently expanding his innovation to educational 3D games and video production.
Phil Parker has a PhD in Business Economics. His research areas include: economic growth, international strategy, forecasting and telecommunications.
