Management Acceleration Programme

Becoming a Better Person and a Better Manager

Nancy Le Bosquain

Manager of Special Projects for Global Communications, Canada

The programme was a total upheaval. It is crazy to be using these words, but it really was. I think everyone was surprised at the depth that we went into and how really it wasn’t just touchy-feely fuzzy things. It was things that do affect you and make you a better person and a better manager.

More than a typical executive education programme

A few years ago, I was at a crossroads in my career. I was not sure what direction to take – whether to take the step to the next level or gain more expertise and focus in one area. As I had a greater intention to move to a completely different role with more responsibility and a broader scope, I decided to look at the Management Acceleration Programme. I was really excited to be able to have the opportunity to continue to develop myself, and then professionally to be able to move to that next level and show to everyone else that I was ready. I really expected a typical executive education format but it wasn’t at all like that.

An unconventional journey of self-awareness and discovery

There were very few things that did not exceed expectations. We had a hugely diverse faculty who were experts in their own areas. I think what really surprised me about the programme was that we all became very close to each other. We spent all of our time together, we learned from each other and we shared experiences. The other thing that surprised me was the amount of self-awareness, the exercises and the approach that was taken. It was very unconventional, but it really works. It was very much about self-discovery and learning to know who you are. I really benefited from just being able to better understand myself and that way also become a better manager.

Returning a better manager and leader

My organisation found that when I came back from INSEAD, I was a better manager, a better leader. The programme gives you the ability to separate yourself from the day-to-day politics and focus on what needs to get done at a really high level. After attending the programme, your business skills are sharper. In the short and long-term, the self-awareness pieces were critical, and I underestimated how important that was. The programme was a total upheaval. It is crazy to be using these words, but it really was. I think everyone was surprised at the depth that we went into and how really it wasn’t just touchy-feely fuzzy things. It was things that do affect you and make you a better person and a better manager.

INSEAD is different. I’ve done a few other executive education programmes, and this was very special. It’s absolutely worth the money, it’s worth the time and the effort, and I would go back in an instant.
