Professor of Strategy
Phanish Puranam is a Professor of Strategy, the Roland Berger Chaired Professor of Strategy and Organisation Design at INSEAD.
Phanish’s research in organization science focuses on how organizations work, and how we can make them work better. His current work focuses on different ways in which intelligent algorithms relate to organizations, in their roles as tools (e.g., machine learning applied to organizational data), team-mates (e.g., human-AI collaboration), and as templates for organizing ( e.g. blockchain, metaverse).
Besides publishing his research extensively in peer reviewed journals (see link to Personal Website on the left), Phanish has also written several books. The Microstructure of Organizations (Oxford University Press, 2018) offers researchers a new perspective on organization design. Phanish’s books for practitioners include Corporate Strategy: Tools for analysis and decisions (co-authored with Bart Vanneste, Cambridge University Press, 2016) which is used as a reference in MBA programs around the world. India Inside (co-authored with Nirmalya Kumar, Harvard Business Review Press, 2012) won critical acclaim for its balanced look at the prospect of India emerging as a global hub for innovation. He also releases regular updates of the freely available e-book re-Humanize ” is written for a general audience and explores what organizations of the future might look like, in the light of rapid changes in technology and culture.
At INSEAD Phanish Puranam founded and co-directs the AI for Business programmes for senior executives.
Phanish obtained his PhD at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2001, and was on the faculty of London Business School till 2012. Reflecting his commitment to doctoral training, he has served as the Academic Director for the PhD Program at both London Business School and INSEAD.

Theos Evgeniou has been on the INSEAD faculty since 2001 and director of the INSEAD Executive Education programme, Transforming your Business with AI.
He has been working on Machine Learning and AI for almost 30 years, on areas ranging from AI innovations for business process optimization and improving decisions, to AI risks and regulation, as well as on new Machine Learning methods. His research has appeared in leading journals, such as in Science Magazine, Nature Machine Intelligence, Machine Learning, Lancet Digital Health, Journal of Machine Learning Research, Management Science, Marketing Science, Harvard Business Review magazine, and others.
Professor Evgeniou has been a member of the OECD Network of Experts on AI, an advisor for the BCG Henderson Institute, a World Economic Forum Academic Partner for AI, and together with three INSEAD alums also a co-founder of Tremau, a B2B SaaS company whose mission is to build a digital world that is safe & beneficial for all. He gives talks and consults for a number of organizations in his areas of expertise. He has received four degrees from MIT, two BSc degrees simultaneously, one in Computer Science and one in Mathematics, as well as a Master and a PhD degree in Computer Science.

Ville Satopaa
Associate Professor of Technology and Operations Management
Ville Satopaa is an Associate Professor of Technology and Operations Management at INSEAD. Before joining INSEAD, Ville received his MA and Ph.D. degrees in Statistics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a BA in Mathematics and Computer Sciences from Williams College.
Ville has decades of experience on data analytics. His current research studies collective intelligence of humans and/or AI in forecasting and decision-making. This involves developing general theory and methodology on information fusion and also specific projects that leverage AI for synthetic personas, experimental design, or conflict resolution. His expertise bridges theoretical advancements with practical applications, making significant contributions to both academia and industry. In recognition of his impact on management practice, he was named to the Thinkers50 Radar Class of 2024.
At INSEAD Ville teaches Business Model Analysis & Innovation (MBA), Bayesian Analysis (Ph.D), Discrete Stochastic Processes (Ph.D.), Principles of Forecasting (MBA), and Artificial Intelligence in Business (Executive Ed.). He has also co-developed an online course called Transforming Business with Artificial Intelligence (Executive Ed.).
Ville has several research papers published in the top statistics journals (e.g., the Journal of American Statistical Association and Annals of Applied Statistics), top management journals (e.g., Management Science and Operations Research), and top field journals (e.g., International Journal of Forecasting and Health Services Research). His research has been acknowledged with various awards, including winning the Section on Bayesian Statistical Science Student Paper Competition in 2015 and being selected as a runner-up for Decision Analysis Society (DAS) 2020 Student Paper Award and as a finalist for the Best Paper Award by the 2020 INFORMS Workshop on Data Mining and Decision Analytics. In the MBA programme, he has received the Deans' Commendation for Excellence in Teaching multiple times and has also won the Best Teacher Award.
