This online event is for students and graduates in psychology, behavioural science and related fields who are considering a PhD in Psychology. It is particularly relevant if you are completing, or have completed, a research master's in social and/or behavioural sciences, social psychology, cognitive sciences, statistics in psychology, behavioural economics, or related subject areas.
No business background or MBA is needed, either to attend or to apply.

About the session
Many of the questions psychologists care about, such as how people judge one another, decide, cooperate and communicate, are also central to organisational behaviour (OB). In this session, Professor Nadav Klein will explain what a PhD in Management in OB offers researchers from a psychology background, and how the two paths compare.
What it will cover:
- Why OB rather than a psychology PhD. OB is interdisciplinary by design. It uses psychology as a foundation and draws freely on economics, sociology and anthropology, following the strongest evidence wherever it comes from. Many of the top journals are shared by both fields.
- One research question, two approaches. Using his own research on self-other asymmetry and how people mispredict conversations, Professor Klein will set out how a psychologist would frame the question and how an OB scholar would reframe it.
- What the job looks like. Fieldwork and data partnerships with companies, case-based teaching in MBA programmes, and engagement with practitioners, along with how funding, teaching load and the academic job market compare between psychology departments and business schools.
- Applying. Most OB PhD cohorts come from psychology, economics or sociology. The application materials and test scores required are broadly the same as for a psychology PhD.
- Your research question, reframed. Professor Klein will take a selection of questions submitted at registration and show how each could be developed into an OB dissertation question.
