Following the completion of his MBA in 1973, Rudolf forged an illustrious career. He always acknowledged that he owed a significant portion of his success to his INSEAD MBA experience. Gratitude for the opportunities provided by INSEAD inspired him to contribute, marking the beginning of a long-standing commitment to the institution.
In 2014, Rudolf first met Ilian Mihov, the newly appointed Dean of INSEAD. Over the years, Rudolf drew inspiration from Ilian’s leadership and vision for the school. Rudolf's funding has been pivotal in achieving important milestones in the school's development including in entrepreneurship, research and scholarships.
When Ilian stressed the importance of safeguarding the research budget from market volatility, Rudolf stepped up with a transformational, endowed gift, to ensure a stable base for research initiatives into the future.
When Ilian shared ambitious plans to reimagine the Europe Campus it intrigued Rudolf. Having considered the proposals, he decided to facilitate the project, with another transformational gift which allowed INSEAD to own the totality of the land the future campus will stand on.
To honour Rudolf and Valeria Maag for their extraordinary generosity, INSEAD has dedicated the “Maag Plaza” to them. Situated at the school’s main entrance, the Maag Plaza will become the campus forum, welcoming all members of the INSEAD community into the heart of the campus.
The dedication ceremony took place on 28 June 2023, coinciding with his 50th class reunion and with his classmates from MBA’73 in attendance.
