For Marcel Stötzel MBA’14D, supporting scholarships is a deeply personal commitment.
A scholarship recipient himself during his time at INSEAD, Marcel experienced first-hand how financial support can open doors — not only to education, but to opportunities and connections that last a lifetime.
Originally from South Africa and now a portfolio manager at Fidelity in London, Marcel has remained closely connected to the school since graduating in 2014. His decision to support scholarships reflects both gratitude and a desire to make similar opportunities possible for future students.
“For me, supporting scholarships is really about paying it forward,” he says.
Receiving a scholarship was a meaningful moment in Marcel’s INSEAD journey. Beyond helping to make the MBA financially possible, the support represented a powerful vote of confidence from a member of the alumni community — an experience he still remembers with humility and appreciation.
Marcel believes scholarships play an essential role in sustaining the diversity that defines the INSEAD experience. By enabling students from a wider range of backgrounds to attend, scholarships strengthen the learning environment and enrich the perspectives shared in the classroom and beyond.
“Successful companies and successful societies thrive on diversity,” he explains. “Providing scholarships allows far greater groups of students to attend than would otherwise be the case.”
More than a decade after graduating, INSEAD continues to play an important role in Marcel’s life. The friendships and connections formed during the programme remain a lasting source of inspiration — including meeting his partner, who was also part of the MBA’14D class.
Today, Marcel’s support of scholarships reflects his belief in the long-term impact of opportunity. By helping future students access an INSEAD education, he hopes to extend the same sense of possibility and community that shaped his own journey.
