In July 2026, devastating fires swept through this treasured ecosystem, causing significant losses to its flora and fauna. The forest’s ecological and cultural significance makes this a loss that resonates far beyond its borders. The effects will be felt for years to come.
For more than 65 years, the Fontainebleau Forest has been an integral part of the INSEAD identity, providing generations of students, alumni, faculty and staff with a place of calm, inspiration and renewal.
INSEAD extends its gratitude to the firefighters, air crews, local authorities and volunteers whose dedication and courage protected lives, homes and the forest from even greater destruction.
As recovery efforts begin, INSEAD is joining the broader mobilisation to support the restoration of the Fontainebleau Forest and and invites our wider community to join us in this important effort.
A dedicated fund has been established by the Mairie de Fontainebleau and the Fondation du Patrimoine to support reforestation and ecological recovery. Those wishing to contribute can donate directly to the fund.
Those in the area, or planning to visit, can also support recovery efforts through volunteer initiatives.
