INSEAD & CEIBS partnership strengthens commitment to developing global business

Two programmes, two business schools and two key markets come together as INSEAD and CEIBS offer programmes to meet the changing needs of today’s global executives

INSEAD, the leading international business school, and China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) have launched two programmes focusing on European and Chinese businesses as part of both schools’ commitment to understanding the ever changing landscape of global business.

China's emergence as an economic force has been both rapid and relatively recent. As the world’s largest manufacturer, low labour costs, fast economic growth and a huge population have led the country to become the destination of choice for global businesses looking to expand consumer markets and increase research and development. Whether they are entering or expanding into the Chinese market, the INSEAD-CEIBS ‘Expanding Opportunities: Doing Business in China’ programme seeks to equip participants with the tools and knowledge to cultivate effective business engagement and develop the steps needed to succeed in a foreign and challenging environment.

Despite economic uncertainty in the Eurozone, Sino-European trade has surged rapidly in recent years, as have cross-border M&A deals undertaken by Chinese companies in Europe. Designed to meet the needs of senior executives involved in these deals, the INSEAD-CEIBS ‘Expanding Opportunities: Doing Business in Europe’ casts light on the business environment within Europe, offering Chinese executives practical advice and first-hand knowledge of the European market.

“These unique programmes were designed using both schools’ unique and in-depth research within each market and are structured to allow INSEAD and CEIBS to complement each other’s strengths, further cementing the ties of Sino-European relations,” said Mark Roberts, Assistant Dean, Executive Development Programmes, INSEAD. “More and more companies, both Europe and Asia-based, are approaching INSEAD with issues specifically related to their expansion, regionally and globally. INSEAD faculty have a deep knowledge and understanding of Asia’s growth and the challenges it presents, in fact, one-third of our faculty is based in Asia and living in the region full-time. Likewise, INSEAD’s roots in Europe allow for a truly integrated appreciation of the different facets within the European market. As relations between China and Europe strengthen, INSEAD is committed to helping organisations and businesses leaders accelerate their pace and distinguish their offerings to compete on the global stage.”

The programmes bring together the unique faculty and research expertise from two of the world’s most prestigious business schools, covering key issues in the strategically important global markets of China and Europe. The partnership combines INSEAD’s strong regional experience and presence in both Asia and Europe, with CEIBS’ deep knowledge of the Chinese market to offer integrated solutions to the current issues faced by senior executives when entering new markets around the world. By working closely with organisations from both European and Asian campuses, INSEAD brings first-hand knowledge of the changing demand for Executive Education. Both Schools offer their extensive experience in the changing business landscape within Asia, and what organisations must do to meet their business objectives in an increasingly complex and integrated world.

The first iteration of the programmes took place in 2012 with 26 participants across both courses, attracting executives from companies around the world. This initial success highlights the changing demand in global business and demonstrates the growing importance organisations are placing on executive education to meet their business goals.

“With China’s increasing global importance, it is imperative that business leaders across the globe understand the country’s business environment. As an international business school with a strong focus on both China and Europe, one that combines outstanding international management education with profound knowledge of the Chinese business environment, CEIBS is uniquely positioned to be a part of this process,” said Hobbs Liu, Assistant President, Executive Director Executive Education, CEIBS.

About China Europe International Business School (CEIBS)

The China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), with campuses in Shanghai and Beijing, is a not-for-profit joint venture established in 1994 under an agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) and the European Commission. Its academic partners are the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) and Shanghai Jiaotong University.

CEIBS offers a unique combination of “China Depth, Global Breadth” – taking advantage of its position as a leading business school in Asia to train responsible leaders. The school’s main objective is to contribute to the economic development of China and its business communities by preparing highly competent, internationally-oriented managers who are capable of working within the Chinese economic environment, while adapting to the driving forces of business globalisation, international competition, and international cooperation.

CEIBS is an international-calibre institution that provides business management and executive education through its full-time MBA programme, part-time Finance MBA programme, part-time Executive MBA programme, and Executive Education programmes. It offers to MBA students, and to managers and senior executives of companies operating in, or planning to enter China, the latest knowledge and a thorough understanding of current practices in international management, helping participants successfully adapt this knowledge to their own business environment. CEIBS has become the leading business school in China, and its MBA, EMBA and Executive Education programmes have all been ranked among the Top 3 in Asia, and Top 30 globally. Clearly focused on knowledge creation in China, rather than importing pre-packaged information from elsewhere, CEIBS’ 100-plus professors each provide both in-depth China insight and a truly global perspective.
