You can apply to the TIEMBA through INSEAD or Tsinghua University. Either way, the criteria and process are the same.
Experience and Potential
We look for people with both management experience and leadership potential. Members of our current class have an average of 12 years work experience, including several years managing teams and/or projects. Just as important, they have the desire and potential to excel as senior business leaders.
The TIEMBA is intensive, rigorous and challenging. So we insist on a solid academic foundation – usually demonstrated by a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognised college or university, and the GMAT or the TIEMBA entrance exams.
Our participants are expected to share cross-cultural experiences that others can learn from. That is why we look for people who have lived, worked or studied abroad – or who work for international companies with clients, suppliers or other stakeholders overseas.
The programme is designed for people with a strong interest or experience in Asian business. It is best suited to people living and working in the region (or planning to) – or whose work has a particular focus on Asia.
Our rolling admissions process offers you a choice of four application deadlines, but we recommend applying as early as possible. Here are the deadlines for the class starting in September 2019 and graduating in July 2021:
GMAT or Executive Assessment (EA)
If you are planning to use a GMAT or EA score to apply to the programme, rather than our own test – you will need to submit your scores in parallel with your application.
INSEAD Assessment Day
If you are planning to sit for a TIEMBA admissions test instead of applying with the GMAT, kindly refer to the list of INSEAD Assessment Days below to book a slot. Do note that you will need to submit your application at least two weeks before your Assessment Day.
For Chinese Nationals
PRC Nationals who wish to enrol in an EMBA programme are required to take an entrance exam. This rule was introduced by the Ministry of Education, China, in 2016. PRC Nationals who are enrolling in the TIEMBA programme will have to obtain a Conditional Acceptance Letter from both INSEAD and Tsinghua University before registering online for the entrance exam. Registration is open in October 2018 and the entrance exam will be held at Tsinghua University in December 2018. We strongly encourage interested applicants to submit your applications early to ensure timely registration of the entrance exam.
For applicants holding Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan passports: You are required to obtain an Unconditional Acceptance Letter from both INSEAD and Tsinghua University before 28 February 2019. Hence, we encourage you to submit your applications by 24 January 2019. Please note that dual-citizens (e.g. Canadian/Hong Konger) are not affected by this requirement.
All other nationalities besides Chinese nationals are required to undertake a Chinese Language module provided by Tsinghua University. However, candidates may be exempted with any of these proofs of language proficiency:
- Chinese Proficiency Test Certificate: Old HSK Level 8 or New HSK Level 6, with an overall score of at least 195 with minimum scores of over 65 in Listening, Reading and Writing
- Pass the Tsinghua University International Student Chinese Proficiency Test A during Module 1 in Beijing
- Provide degree certificate obtained in Mainland China and being educated entirely in Chinese
