Biography
Sergio G. Lazzarini (PhD, Washington University in St. Louis, 2002) is the Chafi Haddad Professor of Management at Insper. His research focuses on the strategy and governance of organizations pursuing social impact, including private enterprises, state-owned organizations, and public-private collaborations.
He previously served as Professor of Sustainability and Strategy at Ivey Business School (2022–24) and has held visiting positions at institutions such as Harvard, INSEAD, HEC Paris, Imperial College, and the University of Toronto.
Sergio is the author of three books on public-private interactions, including Reinventing State Capitalism (Harvard University Press, 2014, with Aldo Musacchio) and The Right Privatization (Cambridge University Press, 2022). His research has appeared in leading journals such as the Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, and Organization Science, earning multiple international awards, including the Academy of Management’s Distinguished Paper Award (2020, 2022) and Brazil’s Jabuti Acadêmico Prize (2024).
He co-founded Insper Metricis, a center for impact measurement and investing, and has consulted for the OECD, IADB, and World Bank. His work has been featured in The Economist, Financial Times, Forbes, and Bloomberg.
