Biography
Rachel Empey is a Supervisory Board Member and Mentor based in Germany. She currently sits on the Supervisory Boards and Audit Committees of BMW AG and ZF Friedrichshafen AG, as well as being a member of the Economic Committee and Board of Trustees of the Else-Kröner-Fresenius Stiftung (Foundation). Rachel is an Executive Mentor for Russell Reynolds, and the lead sponsoring CFO and mentor for the Pan Europe Female Leadership initiative, NXT GEN Women in Finance.
Rachel has extensive international experience as both an executive and non-executive of publicly listed companies across the telecommunications, automotive and healthcare sectors. From 2011 until 2017 she was CFO, Strategy and Innovation Director of Telefonica Deutschland AG, where she led the largest IPO in Europe in 2012. She was also acting CEO during 2014. Rachel moved to the Fresenius Group in 2017 where she was Group CFO, until 2022. From 2016 until 2021 Rachel was a Non-Executive Director and Audit Committee Member of Inchcape PLC, listed on FTSE in London. During her time at Fresenius, she also sat on various Group Supervisory Boards including that of Fresenius Medical Care, also listed on the DAX.
Rachel is a dual British and German national and enjoyed a British education culminating in an MA from Oxford University, where she studied Mathematical Sciences. Rachel qualified as a chartered accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) in 2000, where she was placed 2nd in the order of merit in her year of qualification.
