Additional Information
Biography
Alithic removes CO 2 from the air and sequesters it permanently in a cement replacement product, called a supplementary cementitious material (“SCM”), thereby also avoiding the CO 2 emissions from cement manufacturing (1 ton of SCM replaces 1 ton of cement).
CO 2 from the air is stored in a wide range of feedstocks (e.g. impounded fly ash). Alithic upgrades these low value feedstocks to an SCM, which have a high market value (e.g. ~US$80/ton). As a result, Alithic does not need to rely on the voluntary carbon market to be profitable.
In addition, cost-wise, Alithic’s patented process requires less Opex (15-5x more energy efficient) and less Capex (e.g. no CO 2 transportation or solvent regeneration) compared to competing direct air capture businesses.
