Biography
PuriFire is pioneering the production of green hydrogen and carbon-neutral biomethanol to decarbonise the global shipping and chemical industries.
PuriFire has a complementary founding team with deep hydrogen and materials experience, defensible IP with multiple patents, lab-validated technology and validated strong market demand through multiple LOIs, including with the BASF group, the global chemical giant.
Our technology has the potential to offer a new method for producing green hydrogen and other sustainable fuels like liquid hydrogen or maritime and aviation fuels. Our process involves a patented thermochemical conversion driven by industrial waste heat and eliminates the need for electrolysers and compressors.
Some of the milestones we have achieved over the past three years:
- Unique bench-scale hydrogen generation and carbon capture prototypes
- Tested a variety of feedstocks, including municipal solid waste, agricultural waste, mixed plastics and wet feedstock such as seaweed and AD liquid digestate to optimise biocrude and hydrogen production
- Produced methanol through proprietary catalysts developed inhouse by combining hydrogen and carbon dioxide
- Diverse patent portfolio – 1 granted, 2 filed and pending and 2 prepared for filing
- 2 upstream LOIs from biogas plant owners
- 3 Downstream LOIs from the demand side – yacht manufacturer and BASF, the global chemical giant; in discussion with 2 tier-1 shipping companies.
PuriFire was recently awarded a £950k Innovate UK grant to set up a ¾ - 1 ton per day pilot plant co-located on a biogas plant in Gloucestershire, UK. PuriFire will use by-products from an agricultural AD biogas plant to create a disruptive, cost-effective, low-carbon, circular ecosystem and upgrade the outputs to produce bio-methanol, providing an alternative to traditional petroleum-based manufacture.
We will be the first large-scale manufacturer of biomethanol in the UK, and our goal is to become the largest in Europe by 2027 and globally by 2032.
