Biography
Dr Bjørn is CEO of the Danish energy group, EWII, which spans Commercial businesses with digital energy solutions, wind parks, wind development, energy storage, EV chargers, heatpumps, sales of power and broadband to consumers and industries, and Infrastructure businesses with DSO functions on electricity grid, district heating, district water and fiber optics.
Dr Bjørn holds a background as chairman of Aalborg University, one of the world’s leading technical universities and as chairman of the Foreign Ministry’s Danish Center for Cultural Development working to promote democracy and freedom of speech in underdeveloped countries. He has been awarded the Order of Dannebrog by the Danish Queen Margrethe.
Prior to joining EWII, Dr Bjørn holds 12 years of experience working on reconstructions and 9 years in the marine and power industry where he held executive positions with Aalborg Industries and MAN Diesel. Dr Bjørn has international background from mergers & acquisitions in South America, Asia and Europe. He is educated Cand.Oecon (M.Sc) and PhD from Aarhus University and has taken a number of courses at INSEAD, most lately The Challenge of Leadership headed by professor Manfred Kets de Vries. The PhD was partly made working from Japan. Further, he conducted studies in Germany.
Dr Bjørn is a strong voice in the Danish climate debate, and he is known as the leading voice on digitalization of energy infrastructures being co-founder and chairman of Center Denmark. His latest most remar able initiative was the decision to terminate all biomass-based heating and point to the fact that imported biomass is counted 0 in the Danish climate accounts thereby giving the impression that Denmark has achieved much bigger CO2 savings than what is actually the case.
