Biography

Jim is an experienced Private Markets investment professional and strategy consultant with a wide range of Board and C-level experience gained across multiple organisations over the last 25 years, notably with Hamilton Lane Inc (NASDAQ:HLNE), the largest investor globally in Private Markets strategies with AuM of over $900B, where he served on the Global Investment Committee and as Managing Director and Chairman of the EMEA business until 2021. Jim now holds several Board, industry and academic roles as noted below.

HGT is a publicly listed private equity focussed Investment Company with market cap. ~£2b/$2.5b providing investors with exposure to a fast-growing portfolio of private companies, primarily operating in the technology and technology-enabled services sectors, which are located across Europe and North America. The company is managed by Hg, the 4th largest Private Equity. manager based in Europe.

Independent Board Director at the Business Growth Fund (BGF) plc. BGF is an investment company founded in 2011 that targets growth capital investments into profitable companies based predominantly in the UK. BGF typically invests up to £15m per transaction and has invested over £2b/$2.5b since inception into approximately 300 companies throughout the UK.

In addition to his Board roles, Jim acts as a Senior Adviser to a number of leading Private Markets investment and advisory companies notably CVC Capital Partners, Bain and Company, Hamilton Lane and Campbell Lutyens.

Jim has been a Teaching Fellow at London Business School since 2019 where he teaches the School’s Private Equity and Venture Capital elective class as part of its MBA and MFin programmes.

Jim holds both Batchelor of Commerce and Ph.D. (Management) degrees from the University of Edinburgh Business School and a M.Phil. in Finance from the Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge. Jim completed the AMP, CGM and IDP-C programmes at INSEAD and is a member of the CFA Institute.
