Vice-Chairman, EssilorLuxottica
In 2010, and after two decades in the Group across various senior leadership roles, Hubert Sagnières MBA'86J was named CEO of Essilor, the world’s leading ophthalmic optics company that designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of lenses to improve and protect eyesight. Following the combination with Luxottica in October 2018, he is today the Vice-Chairman of EssilorLuxottica.
Hubert has been the driving force behind the transformation of Essilor’s business model in recent years, focusing on the Group's single mission of “improving lives by improving sight”.
Under Hubert’s leadership, a dedicated Mission Division was created at Essilor in 2012 to accelerate the Group’s initiatives, raise awareness of the importance of good vision, and provide eyeglasses to the 2.7 billion people living with uncorrected poor vision.
A man of action and commitment, Hubert Sagnières’ sights are set on the ambitious, inspiring goal of eliminating poor vision across the world by 2050:
Since 2007, the Essilor Vision Foundation™ has been working to improve eye care for disadvantaged children.
A Mission Division was created in 2012 to accelerate the Group’s initiatives to raise awareness of the importance of good vision and to provide access to eyeglasses for the 2.7 billion people living with uncorrected poor vision.
These initiatives include Eye Mitra™ and Vision Ambassador™, inclusive business models reliant on micro-entrepreneurs who carry out simple eye tests and sell basic optical equipment; Vision For Life™, a charitable fund that supports initiatives targeting uncorrected poor vision; and the Vision Impact Institute™, which works to highlight the social and economic impact of poor vision (the annual global cost is estimated at $272B).
In April 2018, Essilor committed to extend its inclusive business models and charitable schemes, including the donation of corrective lenses to 200 million people living below the poverty line, to meet the needs of the 900 million people throughout the Commonwealth who suffer from uncorrected poor vision, in partnership with the $1B Vision Catalyst Fund.
With many challenges facing leaders, Hubert can share insights and experiences on how to succeed today while building a better tomorrow.
