The INSEAD Blue Ocean Strategy Institute (IBOSI) has announced the launch of a new Blue Ocean Case Collection eBook. Covering cases on topics ranging from DeepSeek and Taylor Swift to Nintendo and NVIDIA, the eBook offers a comprehensive but easy-to-navigate catalogue of over 50 global bestsellers and award-winning cases dedicated to teaching the Blue Ocean family of concepts, created by world-renowned INSEAD professors W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne.

Used in nearly 3,000 universities globally, Blue Ocean teaching materials offer an innovative approach that goes beyond the traditional case study method. These cases, developed by IBOSI’s directors together with its outstanding team of Institute Fellows, include multimedia materials, hackathons, firsthand videos, and interactive exercises. They are designed to deepen users’ grasp of core concepts, from Blue Ocean Strategy to nondisruptive creation.

“For years, we have had requests for a central catalogue of our cases with their key contents and teaching points. With this new eBook, it’s now even easier for academics and students alike to access our diverse library of teaching materials,” says Kim and Mauborgne, Professors of Strategy and Co-Directors of IBOSI.

The eBook is available to download uniquely from the IBOSI page. It underscores INSEAD and IBOSI’s position as the intellectual home and central point of authority on Blue Ocean Strategy, which is centred on the development of uncontested markets that render competition irrelevant.

The IBOSI was established in 2007 in honour of Kim and Mauborgne’s groundbreaking work, and to foster the further application and development of the ideas, initially outlined in their 2005 global bestseller Blue Ocean Strategy: How to Create Uncontested Market Space and Make the Competition Irrelevant. They have since further advanced the ideas through their two subsequent global bestselling books Blue Ocean Shift: Beyond Competing in 2017 and Beyond Disruption: Innovate and Achieve Growth without Displacing Industries, Companies, or Jobs in 2023.

Lily Fang, Dean of Research and Innovation, said: “It is hard to overstate the incredible impact that Blue Ocean has made, and continues to make, on management education and business strategy. Thousands of companies now apply these ideas to build responsible and effective businesses. Kim and Mauborgne’s work is an embodiment of INSEAD's commitment to rigorous and relevant research that seeks impactful solutions to real-world problems.”

The IBOSI pursues two core objectives: to make meaningful contributions to the fields of strategy, management, and innovation, and to enhance the performance of businesses, governments, and non-profits through the practical application of its research. INSEAD also runs dedicated executive Blue Ocean courses several times a year, as well as Blue Ocean electives for MBA students on both its Europe and Asia campuses.

The continued relevance of Blue Ocean Strategy for professors, researchers, corporate trainers, and executives was further underscored recently with the decision by Harvard to create a dedicated Blue Ocean Case Collection webpage. In 2023, Kim and Mauborgne were honored as two of the four leading thinkers in the 100 years of Harvard Business Review’s publication for the global impact of their far-reaching body of research and ideas.
