INSEAD Centre receives international award for family business

INSEAD, the leading international business school, is pleased to announce that the school’s Wendel International Centre for Family Enterprise and INSEAD Professor Randel Carlock, its Director, have received the International Award for Achievement by the Family Firm Institute (FFI).

FFI recognises outstanding contributions to the field of family business and family wealth advising, and to the understanding of family firms as a form of business enterprise. The International Award is presented for outstanding achievement in furthering the understanding of cross border family business issues.

The award ceremony took place during FFI’s annual conference in London today.

Judy Green, Executive Director of the Family Firm Institute said: ‘The Family Firm Institute is especially pleased to be honouring Dr. Carlock who, in addition to his many contributions at INSEAD, has furthered the international development of FFI through outstanding presentations at annual conferences, cutting-edge research published in the Family Business Review, and as an extremely popular Body of Knowledge faculty member for the FFI certificate program.’

‘INSEAD has pioneered a truly international approach, typical of the school, to the study of family enterprise by examining family business models across countries and continents,’ said Professor Randel Carlock. ‘We are honoured that our contribution has been acknowledged by the Family Firm Institute. It confirms our leadership role in this field.’

About the Wendel International Centre for Family Enterprise

The Wendel International Centre for Family Enterprise allows INSEAD to run events and educational programmes that will benefit family firms across the globe. The Centre also helps to raise awareness of the importance of family enterprise as a business model: not only are family firms the most prevalent type of company worldwide - they are also proven to be amongst the most successful.

The Centre contributes to improve the performance of business families around the world. It achieves its mission through research and publications, development of case studies, participation in conferences, offering academic courses and professional education programmes for family enterprises.

The Centre is recognised by business families, academics, consultants and the business community at large as a leading international source for family business scholarship: generating, disseminating and applying knowledge related to family enterprise.

INSEAD activities in the field of family business were initiated thanks to the Wendelfamily, and further developed with support from other family businesses and individuals, the Berghmans/Lhoist Chair in Entrepreneurial Leadership, and the André and Rosalie Hoffmann Chair and Research Fund in Family Enterprise. They are gratefully acknowledged.

About the Family Firm Institute (FFI)

FFI is an international professional membership organisation dedicated to providing interdisciplinary education and networking opportunities for family business and family wealth advisors, consultants, educators and researchers and to increasing public awareness about trends and developments in the family business and family wealth fields.

Professor Carlock announced that starting in 2010, INSEAD will offer its flagship family business programme, ‘The Family Enterprise Challenge’ (FAME), on the school’s new facilities in Abu Dhabi. In future, the programme will run on INSEAD’s three locations, in Europe, Asia and Middle East.

‘The new programme in Abu Dhabi confirms INSEAD as a global centre of excellence in family business scholarship’, said Professor Carlock. ‘The international nature of the school creates a unique environment where business families from around the world convene to share experiences and learn about the latest thinking on a wide range of family enterprise topics.’
