INSEAD, the leading international business school, today announced it has named new Deans for its EMBA, Executive Education, and PhD Programmes, as well as two new Deans of Faculty and Research, respectively. Miklos Sarvary has been named Dean of Executive Education and Javier Gimeno will become Dean of the EMBA Programme. Additionally, Nils Rudi has been appointed Dean of the PhD Programme; Peter Zemsky will serve as Dean of Faculty; and Ilian Mihov will become Dean of Research. Sarvary, Gimeno and Rudi will begin their appointments in September 2009 while Zemsky and Mihov take their posts in January 2010.
Miklos Sarvary, Professor of Marketing at INSEAD, will replace Narayan Pant as Dean of Executive Education. In this role, he will oversee INSEAD’s Executive Education portfolio and continue to drive innovation across the school’s range of open-enrolment and customised programmes. Sarvary’s current research focuses on social networks and new media and how these technologies transform marketing. He has also worked on the marketing of high-tech products with special emphasis on information (content) and technology (delivery). Sarvary has conducted executive education courses and consulted in various parts of the world for multinational corporations, including McKinsey & Co., PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Samsung. He will be supported by Associate Dean Martin Gargiulo who will focus on Executive Education in Asia.
‘The new Dean appointments coincide with several key milestones for INSEAD, including the celebration of our 50th anniversary,’ said J. Frank Brown, Dean of INSEAD. ‘Having world-class faculty has been at the core of the success of the school since its inception, and we will continue to deliver the highest levels of management education across all of our programmes.’
Brown added: ‘We welcome the new Deans to their posts and commend Narayan Pant, Charles Galunic, Christoph Loch and Anil Gaba for their significant contributions over the last three years. I would also like to extend my thanks to Professor Soumitra Dutta who steps down after three outstanding years as Dean of External Relations.’
Replacing Charles Galunic as Dean of the EMBA Programme, Javier Gimeno will manage INSEAD’s internationally recognised Masters-level degree programmes for executives, which draw participants from around the world. INSEAD offers two Executive MBA programmes: the Global Executive MBA, with a global foothold, and the Tsinghua-INSEAD Executive MBA, in cooperation with Tsinghua University in China, and with a focus on Asia. These modular programmes provide working executives with a rigorous MBA education while enhancing their leadership capabilities and their global network. Gimeno is Professor of Strategy at INSEAD and the Aon Dirk Verbeek Chaired Professor in International Risk and Strategic Management. His research and teaching focuses on competitive strategy and competitive dynamics, and he has occupied leadership roles within the principal academic organisations for strategy and management academics.
The PhD programme will welcome Nils Rudi as its new Dean, replacing Christoph Loch who served in the role for three years. In this position, Rudi will lead INSEAD’s unique PhD Programme which prepares students to conduct cutting edge business research and to teach business students and managers concepts that help them to become more effective. Rudi is Associate Professor of Technology and Operations Management at INSEAD. His research is in operations management with overlap to information systems, marketing and finance.
In January 2010, Peter Zemsky will transition into Anil Gaba’s role as Dean of Faculty. As the Eli-Lilly Chaired Professor of Strategy and Innovation at INSEAD, Zemsky currently serves as the head of the INSEAD Strategy Area and is responsible for overseeing the school’s multi-million Euro R&D budget. He is a leading expert on economics-based approaches to strategy and has written on a wide variety of topics including the sustainability of competitive advantage, disruptive technologies, time-based competition and the accumulation of intangible resources.
Ilian Mihov will work closely with Peter Zemsky in his new role as Dean of Research in which he will oversee INSEAD’s research agenda and help drive new areas of focus. Mihov is Professor of Economics at INSEAD and serves as the Novartis Chaired Professor of Management and Environment. He teaches macroeconomics and econometrics across the MBA, EMBA, PhD and various EDP programmes. Mihov’s research is primarily in the fields of monetary and fiscal policies, economic growth and political economy.
