Boards of Tomorrow: Shaping the Future of Governance

Companies now make major strategic decisions under conditions shifting faster than traditional  governance cycles can absorb. Geopolitical realignment, economic volatility and rapid advances in technology—not least AI, of course—are changing where and how companies compete, how they allocate resources and which risks boards must oversee.

 Yet while the world around the boardroom is changing dramatically, the boardroom itself has changed far less. Does that stability reveal the strength of a governance model, robust enough to withstand the test of time? Or does it suggests that boards have not pushed themselves sufficiently to adapt to the world they now govern? Organised by the INSEAD Corporate Governance Centre, the flagship INSEAD Directors Forum on “Boards of Tomorrow: shaping the future of governance” will bring together directors, academics and governance experts to debate whether—and how—boards should evolve in response to a rapidly changing world. 

Together we will address these defining questions:

• Understanding tomorrow’s world: How are geopolitical, economic and technological shifts structurally reshaping the strategic landscape, and what new demands does this place on boards?
• Understanding today’s board practices : How do boards function in real life? Where should we rethink board structures, processes and decision-making and what should stay the same? Do we need a greenfield approach? 
  In this section, we will present the findings of global research conducted by INSEAD and Nasdaq on board practices.
• Shaping boards of tomorrow: How should boards adapt their way of working? How can the effectively oversee the AI strategies of their companies, how should the use AI themselves? How can they enable strategic agility?

For directors looking to sharpen their judgement and rethink how their boards operate, the Forum offers a rare opportunity to test ideas against leading research and the experience of peers. Participants will leave with fresh perspectives, practical ideas for the boardroom, and a stronger network of directors, faculty and governance experts facing many of the same questions.

Adding on to the agenda, the INSEAD Directors Network (IDN) invites its members and newly certified directors to attend its AGM on the morning of 14 November.
