Youssef Idelcaid is Executive Director and Head of the AI Research Center at Gilead Sciences, where he leads the application of artificial intelligence across clinical research and drug development.
Born in Morocco and raised in France, Youssef brings a global perspective shaped by life and work across Europe and the United States. He views diversity of experience as a catalyst for innovation, inclusion, and better decision-making.
An engineer by training, he holds degrees in computational and applied mathematics and business, with executive education from Columbia and MIT. Over an 18-year career, he has held leadership roles at Gilead, Genentech, Levi Strauss, and L’Oréal, advancing AI and digital transformation. Youssef is passionate about using AI to accelerate the development of medicines and improve patient outcomes. He also contributes to AI policy and industry collaborations through organizations such as EMA, FDA and PhRMA.
