Biography
In 2017, Meredith Benton founded the consultancy Whistle Stop Capital, LLC (Whistle Stop) which supports asset owners and advisors in assessing and addressing material environmental and social topics within their investment portfolios. Meredith’s experience as a social and environmental activist with training in financial analysis and business strategy drives the stakeholder-engaged and quantitative approach of the firm.
The consultancy has built multi-stakeholder initiatives, bringing together activists and investors to address sustainability topics as well as developed long-term strategies that engage with the financial markets. Its work has led to clear changes in corporate practices on a wide range of social and environmental topics, including gender and racial equity, workers’ rights, climate change and political involvement.
The impact of the consultancy’s thought leadership and direct corporate engagement has been tangible and is ongoing. An example of a past successful initiative includes developing a strategy to benchmark, standard set and engage S&P 500 companies on their workplace equity practices in a way that led to improved diversity practices at over 10% of that index. On the vanguard of what’s next within responsible investing, the consultancy is now building out a significant strategic initiative focused on increasing investor attention to human rights considerations at technology companies, particularly those related to AI and privacy.
