José Pedro Almeida is an Executive in Residence at INSEAD's Healthcare Management Initiative and a prominent figure in Health AI, recognized among the World's Top 70 Health AI Brains and the Top 30 Health Tech Leaders to follow in 2024 by Health Tech Magazine. He has led some of the most impactful Big Data and AI transformations in healthcare over the past decade, leveraging over 560 billion patient data points to reimagine how patient-care organizations operate and evolve into AI-driven leaders.
JP's groundbreaking work and executive leadership have earned him prestigious awards, including the Microsoft U.S. Global Health Innovation Award, the HIMSS Outstanding Digital Healthcare Platform Award, or the Harvard Business School's Competing in the Age of AI award. José Pedro has held pivotal roles, including Director of Big Data Analytics, Data Science, and Business Intelligence at São João Hospital Center (CHSJ)—Portugal’s largest acute hospital—and Data Intelligence Director for Unilabs Portugal, part of Europe’s major diagnostics group, a transformation that led to an INSEAD Case Study on Data Intelligence in Diagnostics. He has also helped Portugal’s Healthcare Minister designing the Data & AI strategy to transform the National Health System.
