MIM Core Courses
The intensive curriculum consists of a wide range of fundamental business topics that equip you with the knowledge needed to launch a global career.
Period 1
Machine Learning and Optimisation
This course introduces tools for interpreting data and helps you become comfortable with statistical analysis. You will acquire, or reacquire, basic skills in data analysis, but more importantly, become an informed and critical user of business statistical analyses. This is an introductory course to the Data Science module, which you will take in the later part of the programme.
Financial Accounting
You will acquire the basic concepts and mechanics for creating and analysing financial statements, understanding the information that they convey and the relation between them. By understanding fundamental concepts around operating activities and performance, you will be able to calculate and interpret key performance indicators (KPI) for the organisation.
Marketing
You will learn how to conduct marketing analysis, develop marketing strategies, identify customer segments, define brand positioning, and finally execute marketing plan for results.
Period 2
Data Science
You will understand key principles and processes for analysing data and managing analytics projects, learn several advanced analytics/machine learning techniques such as generalising linear models (logistics regression), CART, random forests, methods for segmentation and clustering and neural networks. Finally, you will be able to identify new business opportunities for data analytics and the specific strategies for extracting business value from data. These skills will help you make informal and scientific decisions. Data Science plays a big role in many businesses today and has strong links to business disciplines.
Valuation
This course covers basic valuation concepts and techniques, such as valuing a series of cash flows (an investment project), value cash flows based on derivatives and real option, firm valuation and capital structure. These are key skills needed for roles in financial services, merger and acquisition, and consulting. It will also help you make important investment decisions.
Applied Microeconomics
You will gain an understanding of markets, individual firm decisions, supply and demand, and different competitive equilibrium and pricing concepts. These skills help firms make pricing decisions that are influenced by marketing structures.
Period 3
Managerial Accounting
You will explore the uses of accounting information for profitability determination, decision-making, and performance evaluation. The main objective of the course is to equip you with the knowledge to calculate, interpret and use profitability information, develop and evaluate business cases, and prepare budgets.
Process and Operation Management
At the end of this course, you will be able to estimate and manage variability and risk using tools and business models. You will learn the risk of operation management, processes, logistics. design innovative business models such as BlaBlaCar and shared economy.
Business & Society
You will understand the role of public policy and how it affects business and society. Explore how business can act with care for the greater societal well-being and evaluate future trends on individuals, organisations and society.
Period 4
Strategy
You will learn the basics of strategic analysis and evaluation, and how to apply the analysis to specific strategies, organisations or industries.
Macroeconomics
Individuals, companies, governments and international organisations all operate within an economic environment that influences their performance. In order to minimise the risks and to capitalise on opportunities arising from macroeconomic conditions, companies must constantly monitor changes in interest rates, exchange rates, monetary/fiscal policy, inflation, unemployment and phases of the business cycle. In this course, you will understand how macroeconomic news and events shape individuals, businesses, financial markets and governments. You will also analyse and evaluate the effects of economic policymaking and political processes, and map out the key factors that shape political issues.
Working in Teams
Through evaluation and feedback, you will learn how you can best work in teams. You will also learn various negotiation skills for different scenarios such as single-issue, multi-issue and team negotiations.
