Welcome
Dear Alumni,
As you have experienced for yourself, INSEAD is a truly unique institution. We graduate inspired individuals equipped with sound business knowledge and international wisdom. Through the vision laid out by our founders, we have truly become an independent and entrepreneurial business school with an unmatched global outreach and unparalleled diversity of students, executive participants and alumni.
This weekend, I look forward to sharing my plans with you and I want to hear your views. Our Alumni Reunions team has worked hard and put together an incredible programme for you. Besides the Plenary Session which will focus on the MBA programme and our Alumni network, our Faculty Forums will also cover important themes relevant to the business world of today.
Throughout the weekend’s Social and Networking events, your Reunion will provide you with the ideal opportunity to expand your horizons – a chance to, not only reconnect with your former classmates, but also to interact with Alumni of other classes that hold the same INSEAD spirit.
I look forward to sharing many conversations with you this special weekend and invite you to join me in imagining the incredible potential of INSEAD, with a powerful network of more than 54,000 Alumni in 170 countries united, as we create an ambitious future for INSEAD.
Ilian Mihov

Developing Responsible Leaders (in business schools): wishful thinking?
Speaker: Henri-Claude de Bettignies
Media reports – quasi daily and in many countries - situations where corporations, their leaders and managers, seem to have a broken moral compass or engage in questionable behaviour. Government hopes to regulate, society reacts negatively, trust in business and in its leaders has vanished, with serious consequences for corporations. Taking examples from China (with the use of a short case) and from the rest of the world, we will question where change could come from? Can business schools really do something about the situation and avoid producing a few moral morons??
New Challenges for Europe
Speaker: Jonathan Story
Leadership and beyond
Speaker: Manfred Kets de VriesWe need to be realistic rather than idealistic in terms of what we expect from leaders. This implies observing the actions of leaders, not just what they say, accepting that leaders sometimes have to do unpleasant things to be effective and that their actions and behavior should fit their operating reality.
For long-term sustainability of organizations it is important to develop reflective leaders. This implies, in order to understand others, we need to start with understanding ourselves. Equally, before asking others to change, we should seek to first change ourselves. We need to ask ourselves fundamental questions related to who we are and where we want to go. Also, in understanding and assessing ourselves we cannot separate our public (professional) life and private life. In helping leaders to know themselves better I have always advocated 720-degree assessments of leaders’ behavior – a 360º at work and a 360º at home. These kinds of assessments will stimulate executives to dive deeper into life and work issues. How we as leaders interact with others is partially defined by the kind of attachment orientation we developed in childhood. In addition, to understand what makes people do what they do, I resort to the Clinical Paradigm framework to explore the subconscious forces underlying human behavior. To be more effective interpersonally, we have to learn to listen with the third ear – to use ourselves as an instrument by developing our emotional intelligence.
Finally, in my presentation some observations will be made about what brings happiness. Generally speaking, happiness is influenced by genetics, life circumstances, and intentional activities (conscious framing). The challenge becomes how to enable this conscious framing. What is the prescription for happiness?
