Better through Barter: Thriving in negotiation through a bartering mindset
Most of us negotiate regularly across our personal and professional lives—from where to go on vacation to the division of project roles. Unfortunately, many such negotiations leaving us feeling frustrated, as if we could have achieved a better outcome or at least done more to preserve the relationship.
In this webinar, Brian Gunia will start by offering a reason why negotiation is so hard: because we unwittingly treat negotiations like monetary transactions (i.e., adopt a monetary mindset). Based on his book The Bartering Mindset, he will then make the case for treating negotiations like bartering transactions (i.e., opportunities to trade resources) instead.
Based on a recent set of empirical studies, in turn, Brian will offer practical guidance for adopting a bartering mindset by displaying flexibility, relationality, and creativity. Participants will leave with the ability to thrive in their next negotiation through a bartering mindset.
