INSEAD faculty ranked among world’s top bestselling case authors by the Case Centre

Professors Pierre Chandon, W. Chan Kim & Renée Mauborgne and Ben M Bensaou are placed within the Top 40 bestselling authors

INSEAD, the business school for the world, today announced that four faculty members are named The Case Centre’s top 40 bestselling authors for the academic year 2015/2016. The Case Centre holds the world’s largest and most diverse collection of management cases and teaching materials.

The top 40 case writers emerged with the highest number of cases sold after facing strong competition from over 8,000 case writers worldwide currently registered with The Case Centre. This remarkable achievement is another indication that INSEAD’s thought leadership remains both rigorous and relevant for global business practitioners.

Tim Van Zandt, Dean of Faculty and Research and the Schroders Chaired Professor of European Competitiveness and Reform, comments that, “Congratulations to our faculty members who have emerged as leading case writers in the world. This outstanding feat highlights INSEAD’s success in instilling a thriving research environment, enabling the creation of innovative cases highly relevant to the business community.  At INSEAD, we see case studies as an important teaching tool and we remain committed to drive innovation and excellence in the case method to enable educators around the world to benefit from our faculty thought leadership.”

Pierre Chandon, the L’Oréal Chaired Professor of Marketing, Innovation and Creativity, comments that, “Apart from being my passion, case writing also represents an important way to share knowledge with individuals and organisations. All my cases come with a dedicated website where instructors can watch me teach the case at INSEAD and access up-to-date teaching notes, PowerPoint presentations, and video interviews of the case protagonists. Knowing that so many people read my cases motivates me to work harder and create cases appreciated by students and instructors. ”

W. Chan Kim, the Boston Consulting Group Bruce D. Henderson Chaired Professor of International Management, and Renée Mauborgne, the INSEAD Distinguished Fellow of Strategy and International Management, say that, “We are delighted to be listed among the top 10 bestselling case writers in the world. Our research on blue ocean strategy has brought to our attention exciting companies from around the world. We have further expanded our research with additional resources that explore some of these in thought-provoking cases, teaching notes, and firsthand original theory-based videos.”

Ben M. Bensaou, Professor of Technology Management and Asian Business and Comparative Management, notes that, “I am pleased to be represented as one of the Case Centre’s bestselling authors. What I find most useful when writing a case study is to start with the teaching note. With a pre-defined focal learning point, it is straightforward to build the case narrative, select the different protagonists and their distinctive profiles and set the stage for the built-in tension within the case.”

INSEAD boasts an impressive track record of success in the case method and have received several awards since the inception of The Case Centre Awards in 1991. Earlier this year, Professor Pierre Chandon received dual honours for his Outstanding Contribution to the Case Method Award and the Overall Case Award, marking the 14th Overall Case Awards received by the school, more than any other business school in the world. In 2014, INSEAD faculty was recognised for having produced six of the top 10 bestselling cases by the Case Centre for the last 40 years.
