The programme opens our eyes, shakes our way of thinking and pushes our instincts, transforming us into far more structured and effective board members.
1. What inspired you to join this programme, and what did you hope to achieve?
Over the past 20 years, I have served on the boards of leading companies across various sectors. This experience made me realise the need to continuously update my skills and knowledge. My goal in choosing the programme was not only to create greater value for the organisations but also to explore new ways of contributing at board level, both as an executive and non-executive director. I wanted to update and learn current best practices and understand how rapid global developments, such as AI, are reshaping corporate governance and the strategy of companies at board level.
2. In what ways has the programme shifted your perspective or influenced your approach to work?
The International Directors Programme has improved my perspective as a board member on three key levels:
First, showing how boards can establish a clear and structured process and frameworks to guide the board effectively to create value and a strategic contribution.
Second, it clarified the critical distinction between board and executive responsibilities. Through practical models and processes, I learned how to prioritise key board activities, address major decisions and maintain a healthy separation from management’s operational role.
Finally, the programme culminated with a focus on personal effectiveness, challenging me to reflect deeply on my own contribution. It was a transformative journey that prepared me not only with tools and best practices but also with the discipline to improve and to be a more impactful board member.
3. Which aspects of the experience stood out most for you (faculty, peers, content, format)?
I was looking for Europe’s leading business school with the strongest Corporate Governance programme.
The first contact with the admissions team was exceptional; it immediately set the tone and marked the beginning of the journey. Being accepted and then stepping onto the INSEAD Fontainebleau campus was the continuity of that process.
The faculty is world-class and perfectly aligned with my highest expectations. The intensity of the sessions and the new insights every single day were extraordinary.
The staff’s attention to detail was impeccable; nothing was overlooked, not even during our off-site dinners and social activities.
Above all, the diversity of my peers created an unparalleled learning environment. Rich, multinational perspectives in every discussion allowed me to grow and to create new friendships.
4. Can you describe a moment or insight that particularly resonated with you?
One moment that truly resonated with me was writing the programme essays. Far more than a simple recap of the modules, they became a powerful tool for forward planning. I used them to apply everything I had learned into a personal action plan. It became a practical roadmap for the months and years ahead, supported by the models and processes explored during the classes. For me, the essays were very valuable. Months after completing the programme, I still refer to them regularly and follow their guidance rigorously. That reflective exercise didn’t just consolidate my learning; it gave me a clear, structured base to apply it consistently in my board work.
5. Would you recommend this programme to others? If so, what makes it meaningful to you?
Yes, I have already recommended the International Directors Programme, and my business partner is enrolling in the next edition. I recommend it to every entrepreneur, board member or senior executive, regardless of years of experience. The programme opens our eyes, shakes our way of thinking and pushes our instincts, transforming us into far more structured and effective board members. The models, frameworks and processes transform us as board members in a holistic way, allowing for professional growth. When I completed it, I felt truly complete as a board member—with a level of confidence I didn’t even know was possible after decades in the role. For anyone serious about excellence in governance, this programme is invaluable.
