INSEAD Participant Interview
Thinking Bigger With the Transition to General Management Programme
Co-Founder and President
"Transition to General Management is a wonderful programme. It gave me the confidence to move forward with Unatti. It’s a very trustworthy and engaging environment that enables you to reach for the best."
Can you please introduce yourself?
I am a co-founder and President of Unatti (www.unatti.com), an e-mentoring start-up.
Unatti combines the ancient tradition of mentoring, with cutting-edge sourcing and matching technology to connect you with the mentor who is right for you. Our mentoring service brings together the latest know-how on human capital, an e-mentoring process mixing online and offline experience, mentor-mentee profiles, interviews and technology to ensure a fine mentorship relationship over time.
How did the Transition to General Management programme help progress your project?
During the Transition to General Management programme, the concept and plan for Unatti really came to life. TGM gave me a level of confidence to move forward with this venture.
I spoke to other Transition to General Management participants and they shared their thoughts with me. One of them became my mentor and encouraged me to take my ideas further: to think bigger. This has proven extremely useful.
Very valuable also, was having the time between the two modules to put together a real concept and share it with other Transition to General Management participants for feedback.
Why did you choose Transition to General Management?
There were two main reasons for choosing to come on Transition to General Management:
- To reflect on my career and how to move it to the next stage
- To gain access to the INSEAD network. I have kept in touch with other TGM participants. I also became a member of the INSEAD Alumni Association France, for which I represent Transition to General Management. I still receive fantastic support from some members of the Association
What were some of the highlights of the programme?
Transition to General Management gave me a broader view of some of the skills required on daily basis to manage a business. I still refer to the course handouts from time to time.
I particularly enjoyed the organisational behaviour module. It reveals roadblocks in one’s career: how to become an astute leader…what it takes to manoeuvre in a large organisation.
Transition to General Management also gives you the time to reflect and the support network to get to the next stage in your career.
What was your impression of the other participants?
The mix was good.
Some participants gave me sound business advice.
What was your impression of the INSEAD faculty?
Overall, the professors were very engaged, excellent at teaching and took the time to answer questions. I have taken the opportunity to continue the conversation post Transition to General Management with some of them. They have been responsive and helpful.
What does the programme provide participants with to take that next step in their career?
From a skills point of view, Transition to General Management provides you with a general overview of all the skills and expertise required to manage a business. I can now have a thoughtful conversation on most general management topics.
What would you say to someone who is considering taking part in TGM?
Transition to General Management is a wonderful programme. It gave me the confidence to move forward with Unatti. It’s a very trustworthy and engaging environment that enables you to reach for the best.
