Andrew de Csillery MBA’94J: A Lifelong Journey of Growth with INSEAD

INSEAD has long been known as a global hub for leadership and innovation, shaping careers and transforming lives. For Andrew de Csillery MBA’94J, it has been more than that – it’s been a lifelong partner in growth, reflection and reinvention, with his latest incarnation as an INSEAD-trained Executive Coach.

Andrew began his career in consulting, but over time, he felt drawn toward new challenges - ones that aligned more closely with his evolving aspirations for an international corporate career. “I realised that I wanted to explore new challenges and broaden my perspective beyond my initial career trajectory,” he explains. But stepping into a new chapter required more than just ambition; it demanded new skills, a fresh perspective, and a strong community of support - all of which he found at INSEAD.

His first encounter with the school came during his MBA in 1994. “The first time I studied here, I was struck by the international and multicultural nature of the student body,” he recalls. “It’s a place where you learn as much from your peers as from your professors.” That global, collaborative spirit equipped Andrew to navigate his early career with confidence, moving from London to Singapore to New Zealand and then Paris - and laid the foundation for the transformation still to come.

Years later, as his career continued to evolve to become an Executive Coach, Andrew felt the need to upskill once again. He made the decision to return to INSEAD. “Coming back felt like a natural choice,” he says. “INSEAD has a way of pushing you beyond your comfort zone, challenging your thinking, and preparing you for the next big step.”

Through the INSEAD Coaching Certificate (ICC) programme, Andrew continued to deepen his understanding of organisational behaviour and change leadership, and how to apply that when coaching other leaders. The programme, he notes, was instrumental in helping him challenge and renew his own perspectives. “It wasn’t just about acquiring knowledge - it was about developing a mindset that allows you to help others to reflect deeply and so to adapt and lead in uncertain times,” he reflects. “That starts with understanding and knowing your own motivations and biases, and the programme took me to places I hadn’t expected to go”.

Beyond academics, INSEAD provided Andrew with a strong support network and a sense of belonging. “The connections I made here have been incredibly valuable. Whether it’s sharing insights with classmates or seeking advice from faculty, there’s a sense of community that stays with you long after you leave.” Today, Andrew gives back as a member of the MBA Admissions Committee, playing a role in shaping the next generation of business leaders. “It’s rewarding to help ensure that INSEAD continues to attract and admit the very best future leaders,” he shared. “INSEAD has given me so much, and this is one way I can contribute in return.”

For Andrew, INSEAD has been more than a business school. It has been a source of inspiration, a lifelong learning partner, equipping him with the tools, confidence, and network to thrive in an ever-changing world - and now, through executive coaching, to help others do the same.
