Dissertation
Provisional Title: "Essays on Capacity Management in the Healthcare Industry "
In my dissertation, I focus on solving capacity management issues that arise in different healthcare contexts. The first two chapters of my dissertation concern the optimal capacity allocation between two diverse sources for stem cell transplant and designing optimal inventory policies for managing cord blood cells. We use data that contains information on genetic diversity in the U.S. population and prescribe policies to the institutions that coordinate stem cell transplants. In the last chapter of my thesis, I mathematically model the key operational trade-offs involved in shared medical appointment (SMA) as a service system and provide normative prescriptions for capacity management for several system configurations.
