INSEAD adds optional eleven-week module to its full-time MBA programme for participants wishing to gain 'hands-on' experience in entrepreneurship.
INSEAD this year introduces a new eleven-week module on entrepreneurship for those of its MBA participants who are looking to add advanced accomplishment and experience in entrepreneurship to their CVs. The new specialisation will be available for the first time to the class that graduates in December 2004. The programme will consist of an eight-week internship in a company, three weeks of intensive class work, and an individual written assignment.
To begin with, the programme will be offered on INSEADs Asia campus and the participants who complete it will be awarded a post-graduate 'Certificate in Entrepreneurship'.
Professor Steve Haslett, one of INSEAD's 'Entrepreneurs in Residence' and a serial entrepreneur himself, is leading the programme. He explains that this new initiative was created in response to INSEAD MBA participants' request for more practical entrepreneurship experience.
"Entrepreneurs and private equity investors look for relevant entrepreneurial experience when hiring executives for growth ventures", Professor Haslett observes. "This can create a 'chicken and egg' problem for our MBAs. Those who have not already worked in an entrepreneurial setting will find it difficult to enter such growth ventures, even if they have a distinguished track record working for well-known companies. The Certificate in Entrepreneurship is designed to overcome this barrier."
The programme also provides an opportunity for MBAs who wish to start their own companies right after graduation to earn certification while getting their ventures off the ground.
