The INSEAD-Pevara Private Equity Navigator combines academic rigour with practitioner relevance
INSEAD, the leading international business school, has partnered with eFront, a top software provider of financial solutions for managing alternative investments, to launch a new quarterly report for the private equity industry. The INSEAD–Pevara Private Equity Navigator aims to become an unbiased reference tool for private equity practitioners, academic scholars, and other observers.
The new publication is a joint effort of Pevara, the performance monitoring division of eFront, and the INSEAD Global Private Equity Initiative (GPEI). GPEI was established to align the school's research and educational capabilities with the practical needs of professionals and INSEAD alumni in the global private equity industry.
The publication establishes a new standard in assessing the overall activity and performance in the private equity industry by combining a reliable and distinct dataset with the analytical rigour of a top academic institution.
The INSEAD GPEI’s work was based on a data set entirely founded on cash flows for 2,650 funds reported by hundreds of LPs on Pevara’s platform. These circumstances offered access to a large data sample free from reporting or self-selection biases. The research output reflects the day-to-day reality of institutional investors and facilitates the adoption of key findings into the investment decision process.
The inaugural issue of the INSEAD–Pevara PE Navigator presents its findings in three sections. The first section reviews quarterly data for private equity activity levels, performance and variance. The second section explores two hypothetical portfolios, using real data, for the purposes of illustrating the interplay of private equity concepts from an investor perspective. A third section examines buyout performance in North America and Europe.
“The added value of this report is the combination of independent academic leadership and a unique dataset,” said Michael Prahl, Executive Director and Head of Research at INSEAD GPEI. “The INSEAD–Pevara PE Navigator is designed to stimulate both discussion and research, as well as to enable our readers to make better allocation decisions.”
Pevara’s Head of Product Management, Jeremy Hocter, expressed similar enthusiasm for the publication’s launch.“Beginning with this inaugural issue, the PE Navigator strikes a unique new balance,” he said, “It combines the presentation of raw data and minimal accompanying commentary with a more engaging approach to provide insight into key concepts in private equity. We couldn’t be more pleased with the result.”
