INSEAD, one of the world’s leading business schools, will at the sixth edition of its annual Global Business Leaders Conference convene leaders, decision makers and influential entrepreneurs to discuss the growing role of corporate governance in both public and private sectors. The event is set to be held on October 24th at the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Abu Dhabi.

HRH Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal, Founding Chairman, KBW Investments, will be delivering a keynote speech on corporate governance in entrepreneurism while H.E. Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Director General, Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and Vice Chancellor of UAE University, will comment on the evolution of public governance.

The first plenary session will discuss the changing face of corporate governance in today’s world, reviewing the evolution of governance practice around the regions of the world.  The panel discussion will be led by Peter Zemsky, Dean of Executive Education and of Innovation, Professor of Strategy, and holder of The Eli Lilly Chair of Strategy and Innovation at INSEAD.

The second plenary session will be moderated by Ludo Van der Heyden, Academic Director of the INSEAD Corporate Governance Initiative, and INSEAD Chaired Professor of Corporate Governance.  It will explore corporate governance within the Middle East and discuss the measures that are or need to be implemented for governance to contribute to a sustainable growth scenario for the region.

In addition to these sessions, officials from the World Bank will be presenting their soon to be issued report on public governance and privilege-resistant policy making, which explores how improved public governance can create a conducive policy environment for competitive private sector growth.

Ludo Van der Heyden, commented that, “ With an increasing focus on knowledge-sharing, it is more important than ever for the private and public sector to come together to advance business in the GCC. This year’s topic is governance, and provides an opportunity to take stock of where the practice is moving and how it is impacting the region.”

He continued, “Over the years, INSEAD has been bringing together business leaders, acclaimed faculty and influential alumni from around the world. Through the multifaceted perspectives at successive editions of the Global Business Leaders conference, we have been identifying solutions not just of regional applications but those relevant universally.”

Senior leadership from Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA), du (Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company), Al Jaber Group, Crescent Petroleum, Capital Market Authority, the Kanoo Group, Mumtalakat and will be participating in the sessions that address corporate governance in the world and the Middle East.

Master of Ceremonies for the event, Miguel Sousa Lobo, Director of the Middle East Campus in Abu Dhabi, Associate Professor of Decision Sciences, INSEAD, added, “The discussions and plenary sessions will delve into first-hand experiences of entrepreneurs, businessmen and other key players who will be applying corporate governance to the unique local business culture, ultimately unlocking value not just in business but also to their communities.”

Corporate governance also goes hand in hand with digital transformation. As per an INSEAD study released earlier this year, only 14% of respondents from among 1176 respondents indicated that their company is engaged in “business model transformation” or “digital transformation”. To account for the emergence of this new paradigm, the INSEAD Corporate Governance Initiative (ICGI) launched in 2010, combines faculty competence and institutional visibility and is rolled out through research, education programs and governance forums such as the Global Business Leaders Conference.
