INSEAD names new Dean of MBA programme

Jake Cohen succeeds Antonio Fatás, builds on legacy of renowned international MBA programme

INSEAD, the leading international business school, today announced it has named Professor Jake Cohen as the new Dean of the school’s MBA programme. Effective 1 September 2008, Professor Cohen will succeed Professor Antonio Fatás who has served as the Dean of the programme since 2004. Cohen has been with INSEAD for more than five years as Professor of Accounting and Control and Business Law, and Director of the INSEAD-PricewaterhouseCoopers research initiative on high performance organisations, overseeing the school’s largest research centre.

‘The ability to position strong, globally minded leaders within an organisation is the cornerstone for success,’ said J. Frank Brown, Dean of INSEAD. ‘At INSEAD, our MBA programme leadership has consistently delivered the highest quality curriculum and multinational experience for our participants. Antonio Fatás has done an impressive job with the MBA programme over the last four years and I am confident that with the appointment of Jake Cohen we are going from strength to strength in this important role.’

‘As the new Dean of the MBA programme, I will uphold INSEAD’s long-standing commitment to world-class teaching and research’, Cohen said.  ‘I look forward to the next four years working with all faculty members in managing the overall MBA curriculum and overseeing the operational aspects of the programme from marketing to career services’.

Professor Cohen teaches courses in Financial and Managerial Accounting, Financial Statements Analysis, Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate Restructurings, and Business Law at both INSEAD’s Europe and Asia campuses. He has won the Outstanding Teacher award for both core and elective courses.

Professor Cohen serves as the Director for INSEAD’s Business Journalists Seminar, which is designed to equip reporters with the tools needed to understand and analyse data and trends in the business world. At INSEAD, Cohen also founded the Business Foundation programme, an MBA pre-matriculation programme set up to prepare approximately 20 percent of the incoming MBA class for heavily quantitative subjects such as accounting, finance and statistics.

‘I am honoured to hand over leadership of the MBA programme to Jake Cohen,’ said Antonio Fatás, Professor of Economics at INSEAD. ‘Professor Cohen has been highly recognised throughout his academic career for his notable research and outstanding teaching abilities. He will be a true asset to the programme and our students.’

Prior to joining INSEAD, Professor Cohen was a Senior Teaching Fellow for four years in the Accounting and Management group at Harvard Business School, where he was a founding member and an accounting professor in the Analytics programme.
